The Department of Community Development is responsible for the revitalization of physical structures. The department administers housing and urban development funding and caters to the needs of low- and moderate-income families. It governs a redevelopment division that assists in the resale of properties, public improvement projects and acquisitions. The Department of Community Development has a planning and zoning division that reviews a variety of applications and focuses on ordinances. In addition, the department operates an economic development division that is responsible for encouraging expansion projects and generating new business activities. The division administers an urban enterprise zone program. The Department of Community Development is a part of the government of the city of Paterson in New Jersey.
