- Medical Weight LossAfter substantial weight loss, weight gain or simply from the effects of aging, skin on the upper arms can become inelastic, loose and flabby. Arm lifts, also known as brachioplasty, remove that excess skin and fat. Patients who have significant amounts of fat may want to consider combining the procedure with liposuction. Incisions are usually hidden along the inner arm. This allows patients to wear sleeveless clothing as scars are out of view.

- Carpal Tunnel SyndromeThe Northern Jersey Plastic Surgery Center is equipped to treat the full spectrum of plastic surgery. This includes facial cosmetic surgery and body contouring; breast surgery including breast reduction and breast reconstruction; skin and soft tissue surgery, as well as lower extremity reconstruction. In addition, we perform evaluation and treatment of patients with a wide variety of hand disorders. These range from traumatic bone, tendon and nerve injuries to compression neuropathy (e.g. carpal tunnel), to the surgical treatment of arthritis.
- General SurgeryTroy Callahan, M.D., is the Director of Northern Jersey Plastic Surgery Center in Hackensack, NJ. He is a Queens, NY native and completed his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, he continued his studies at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, earning his doctorate degree in Medicine. Dr. Callahan subsequently completed General Surgery training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and a post-doctorate fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco. He was awarded a National Institutes of Health grant in Trauma and Burns for his research.

- BotoxBlepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet or dark circles under the eyes. Incisions are made along the eyelids in inconspicuous places (in the creases of the upper lids, and just below the lashes on the lower lids). The surgeon removes excess tissue through these incisions and then stitches them closed with fine sutures. In the case that no skin needs to be removed, the surgeon will likely perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars.

- LiposuctionThis procedure is less invasive than other surgeries and is performed on various areas of the body to improve shape and contour through very small (less than a half inch) incisions. This procedure is usually done on patients who wish to improve the contour of areas with excess fat, but have good skin tone – typically without stretch marks. This procedure has a much faster recovery time than more invasive procedures and allows you to return to normal activity within a few days. Pain is usually minimal, and bruising resolves quickly. There are several different methods of performing liposuction (power assisted, ultrasonic, laser, etc.) each having different risks and benefits.
- Breast AugmentationOur patients elect to undergo breast augmentation for many different medical and aesthetic reasons, including balancing breast size, compensating for reduced breast mass after pregnancy or surgery, and correcting a congenital breast defect. Under our doctors’ expert care, patients enjoy great-looking, natural-feeling breasts that are one or more cup sizes larger after the operation.
- Breast ReductionLarge breasts may cause physical discomfort and can even harm the women who have them — the size and weight of large breasts can result in self-consciousness, improper posture, pain in the back and neck, indentations from bra straps, skin rashes, breathing problems and skeletal deformities. Breast reduction surgery is usually done to provide physical relief from these symptoms, not for cosmetic reasons. Performed under general anesthesia, this procedure removes fat and glandular tissue and trims resultant excess skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a healthier proportion to the rest of the body. There are different techniques available to perform breast reduction surgery depending on the size of the breast and the patient’s goals. The surgeon removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin, relocates the nipple and areola, and reshapes the breast skin envelope before closing the incisions with stitches. Liposuction may be used to further contour surrounding areas while minimizing scars. Many patients return to work within one to three weeks and resume exercise about a month’s time.
- Breast LiftA breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed to return youthful shape and lift to breasts that have sagged as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, loss of the skin’s natural elasticity or simply the effects of aging and gravity. The procedure can also reduce areolar size (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and it can be combined with breast augmentation for added size. There are various methods for performing the procedure including peri-areola, vertical (lollipop incision) and Wise pattern or anchor incision technique. Each of these techniques produces a different type of scar pattern. The method used is determined by your breast shape, length and size. This will be discussed with you in detail during your visit.
- RhinoplastyOne of the most common plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person’s nose. This procedure may be used to remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, or to correct injury, birth defects, or other problems that affect breathing. The results may be subtle or dramatic depending on what goals are to be accomplished. Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either local or general anesthesia.
- Breast ReconstructionThe success and safety of your breast reconstruction procedure depends very much on your complete candidness during your consultation. You’ll be asked a number of questions about your health, desires and lifestyle.
- Plastic SurgeryThereafter, Dr. Callahan completed his Plastic Surgery training at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island. After concluding this rigorous training program, he went on to obtain additional fellowship training with the prestigious Long Island Plastic Surgical Group.
- BlepharoplastyStitches are removed within a week and most people return to work shortly after. The effects of blepharoplasty are long lasting and result in a more youthful appearance.

- Body LiftAlso called belt lipectomy or torsoplasty, the circumferential body lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the torso (back and front). Candidates for body lifts typically suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or significant weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, arm lifts and liposuction to retain a proper body proportion. Body lifts tighten and tone the abdomen, back, buttocks and hip areas. During the procedure, skin is lifted from underlying tissue, muscles are tightened and stitched and fat is removed where necessary, and the skin is sutured closed. The navel is often removed and replaced in its new position. Surgical tubes may be needed for a few days to drain any fluid, and patients may need to wear compression garments for a few weeks to facilitate faster healing. After surgery, patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, strenuous activities must be limited for about a month. Results are visible immediately.

- Cosmetic SurgeryBreast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the U.S. and one of our most popular services. Breast augmentation can give women with small or unevenly sized breasts a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned look through the placement of saline or silicone implants in the breast.
