- Pediatric CareA. A Family doctor is a specialist who has completed four years of medical school, followed by three years of residency, with intensive training in all the fields of Primary Care, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ob-Gyn, Psychiatry and Geriatrics. Family doctors are skilled to treat most medical problems that come to their office. When referrals are needed, the family physician will coordinate the appropriate referral and act as the patient's quarterback; providing support and follow-up.
- Primary CareA. Both Osteopathic doctors and Medical (allopathic) doctors attend four years of medical school followed by several years of post medical school training in the field of their choice. Both Dr. Frank and Dr. Janet Kerrigan completed an MD Family Practice residency in the U.S. Navy and are Board Certified by the Allopathic (MD) certifying board. DO's may specialize in any sub specialty in medicine; however, most tend to choose Primary Care. DO's comprise only 10% of the physicians in the U.S., but take care of 20% of the patients in the U.S. An osteopathic approach to medicine emphasizes the "whole patient" addressing the full spectrum of an individual's health needs.
