- ElectrocardiogramPrior to HIFU, patients usually have lab work (Complete Blood Count (CBC), Complete Medical Panel, Urinary Analysis with culture if indicated by your physician) and an EKG in preparation for undergoing anesthesia. If the patient has any significant medical history, he should see his cardiologist or primary physician. The HIFU procedure itself causes no significant bleeding or swings in blood pressure, etc. A nurse will send detailed information after the procedure has been scheduled regarding diet, medications and any additional lab work or tests that may be required.
- Urinary IncontinenceUrinary Incontinence (UI) is the involuntary loss of urine from the body. UI can be frequent or occasional. The loss of urine can range from a few dribbles to a complete emptying of the bladder.

- Labor and DeliveryFemale stress incontinence generally occurs when your pelvic muscles are not strong enough to keep the opening of the bladder neck closed when there’s pressure on your bladder from laughing, coughing, lifting, exercising or other activities that cause abdominal pressure. It can slowly develop as you age and may be the result of a specific event such as childbirth, or be a result of smoking, obesity or other previous tissue traumas in the area.

- Kidney StonesKidney blockage at the UPJ is typically congenital, meaning children are born with it. About one in 1,500 children are born with this problem. Although less common, a UPJ obstruction can also develop in adults due to surgery, kidney stones or swelling in the upper urinary tract.
- Testicular Cancer
- EndoscopyIn the event that your child needs surgery for a urologic condition, our board-certified surgeons offer minimally invasive procedures that typically result in less pain, less scarring, faster healing time, and reduced risk of infections.
- Interstitial Cystitis
- Urinary Tract Infection
- Prostate CancerProstate cancer is a disease in which normal cells in a man’s prostate gland change and grow uncontrollably, forming a mass called a tumor. As men get older, it becomes more and more important for them to keep a close eye on their prostate health. Studies show that most men over the age of 50 will be faced with some problem related to their prostate and 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- Cancer Care
- Lung CancerAbout 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, making it the second most common cancer in men behind skin cancer and second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind lung cancer.

- UltrasoundHIFU is a precise and targeted therapy that reduces the risk of complications and impact to quality of life caused by surgery and radiation. HIFU uses ultrasound energy, or sound waves, to heat and destroy specifically targeted areas of tissue. During HIFU, the sound waves pass through healthy tissue without causing damage. However, at the focal point of the sound waves the tissue temperature rises rapidly to 90 degrees Celsius destroying the targeted tissue. The same principles are used when light is focused through a magnifying glass.
- MRIIn some cases, the entire prostate will be targeted, which would include the tumor as well as any other tissue in the prostate. Think of it as having the prostate removed, without a single incision. However, some physicians, who work with advanced, MRI- guided imaging for diagnosis, can determine the exact location of the tumor in the prostate and may use HIFU to only treat the tumor leaving other tissue in the prostate intact; this is referred to as partial tissue ablation, or focal therapy.

- X-Rays
- ChemotherapyAfter diagnosis, doctors are likely to do more tests to learn as much as they can about the cancer and your overall health before deciding on the next steps. There are many options available for care today, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, systemic targeted therapies, local therapies that target the tumor directly, and radiation therapy.
- Radiation Therapy2. Hamstra DA, Mariados N, Sylvester J, et al. Continued benefit to rectal separation for prostate radiation therapy: Final results of a phase III trial.
- Radiation OncologyPrior to being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Glenn Seymour worked in the field of radiation oncology, and had a background in treatments for prostate cancer.
- Minimally Invasive SurgerySurgeons can perform pelvic organ prolapse repair surgery using traditional open surgery, which requires a long incision (cut), or through minimally invasive surgery. In traditional open surgery, the surgeon looks directly at the surgical area through the incision and performs the repair using hand-held tools.
- Cyst Removal
- VasectomyA vasectomy is a simple micro-surgical procedure that involves blocking the tubes (vas deferens) that sperm uses to flow into the semen. This results in making a man permanently sterile. It is a procedure that should be considered thoughtfully since it does eliminate a man’s potential for reproduction.

- Reconstructive Surgery1 If none of these options provide adequate symptom relief, your doctor may recommend surgery. There are two types of surgery for pelvic organ prolapse: obliterative surgery and reconstructive surgery.
- Laparoscopic SurgeryThere are two minimally invasive approaches to radical and partial nephrectomies: laparoscopic surgery and robotic-assisted surgery, possibly with da Vinci technology. Surgeons perform minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgeries through a few small incisions. To perform a laparoscopic nephrectomy, surgeons use special long-handled tools while viewing magnified images from the laparoscope (camera) on a video screen.
- Skin CancerIt is estimated that approximately 200,000 new cases will be diagnosed each year. It is the most common non-skin cancer among men and more than 2 million men in the U.S. count themselves as prostate cancer survivors.
