Birthday party at Midwest twisters

We had our 6 year old daughter’s birthday party on 2/15/15 at Midwest Twisters.

We had our concerns scheduling a party at Midwest after the last party we attended when one of the coaches had to run the party instead of a party coordinator. He was terrible with the kids and adults, leaving such a bad impression with us that we specifically asked that he not be involved with our party. Needless to say he was the star of our party by the end and the primary reason for my taking the time to provide a review.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, let me go back to the beginning. Our challenges started with me calling Midwest the day before the party to address my wife's concerns about the front office not having the party set up right. I thought it wasn't possible to screw that up but sure enough we weren't on the schedule and we hadn't come by to pay the deposit. Never mind we called back the previous month to confirm after receiving their message and we were assured we did need to come up that night to pay. Of course it broke down from there on both sides.

Fast forward to the day of the party and we walked in a few minutes early as the previous party was leaving and apparently they did not feel that it was necessary to clean up after themselves. I know I felt bad for the staff.

As our party showed up, it seemed that the one staff member assigned to be our party coordinator was quickly overwhelmed. (We were expecting up to 20 kids and had communicated that in advance). I felt bad for the kids getting put in time out, not because they were not being challenging but because most were not members and used to the rules of the place. Of course when you have kids showing up at staggered times we had quite a few that didn't get the initial briefing on how to play.

Overall the party was good although I had to stop recording videos so I could help the kids up to the zip line, again because it seemed understaffed. (Especially since I was under impression parents were allowed to come out and take pics but not to help with the kids.)

After the gym play time it was time to have pizza and cake, then move on to presents. With that many kids, as well as presents, we were watching the clock closely to try to keep on time but also not be rude to our guests. I already expected Mf Gruff ( I have other names) to be on us to be out on time but what I never expected was him calling out to everyone in a loud voice that we needed to start packing up. If that wasn't embarrassing enough they starting scrubbing the tables with overwhelming smell from clearer as they tore down chairs and tables as fast as we could send people out.

I'm a computer guy but also work in business. I've never (ok last party we were at same guy did similar actions) seen a company work so hard to ensure others do not want to have their birthday party there. I don't think I have to say anything because I think they did a great job turning others away all by themselves. I suspect they are a terrific gymnastics facility and coaching team but I really have to question their business model with the parties. My suggestion is get out of party

business and focus on what you must be good at.

Lastly, after the party it was time to sign our kids up for gymnastics. As nice as it would be to take our two kids to a hometown “O’Fallon” facility, we opted to drive to next available facility in Belleville instead of taking our business back to Midwest and dealing with their personnel. Certainly a shame.

This place can not keep their billing straight. They send a bill after you have already paid, for a different amount. I will admit they have a coach or two that seem to care about the members and what they are learning. Then you have coaches that degrade members to other members and their parents. I have unliked them on facebook and will not be sending my children back after what I read tonight. I will forever have a bad taste in my mouth for this place and will for sure let everyone know.

Cold

My daughter trained at Midwest Twisters. I was impressed by the nice facility and experienced coaches, but the lady coaching my daughter was sub-par. She seemed more self involved and more about the money and recognition than about the welfare and growth of the girls. After several months my daughter dreaded going to practice, and I began to notice the ridiculous amount of gossip between the parents as well as the coaches. They bashed other employees as well as other area gyms and people right in front of the girls. Needless to say, I pulled my daughter from their program. The overall impression I got was that it was a cold, cut throat environment.
