General Info

Our church was formed as a joint venture of the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches of Fairbanks to serve the fast growing community of North Pole located thirteen miles southeast of Fairbanks. Forty-Four chartered members of New Hope Methodist Presbyterian Church held their first service in the North Pole Grange Hall on May 7, 1978, in November of 1981, ATCO buildings, used during the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, were purchased. A "decimal" error in the final billing, a moral dilemma resolved and, perhaps, some spiritual intervention, enabled the congregation to purchase the buildings for $1,800 instead of $18,000.00! The ATCO's placed on our present site at Bradway and Badger roads housed the sanctuary, Sunday School, fellowship area, a nursery, bathrooms, and pastor's study. In May 1995, thanks to thousands of hours of Volunteer effort from the congregation and mission teams from the lower 48, a new sanctuary, foyer, and offices were dedicated. We have since added new restroom facilities and remodeled the original ATCO building into our New Hope Church School. This area also serves as our Fellowship Hall and Sunday School rooms. Today, the New Hope Congregation has grown to 130 attendees. Together with our Pastor, Reverend Karen Martin Tichenor, we are group of people from all walks of life including "Sourdoughs" or those passing through while serving their country at one of our local military installations. Working together we live out our mission of "tending the garden to share spiritual fruit with the world. "New Hope Methodist Presbyterian Church is a spiritual body of believers in Christ who nurture Christian disciples through reverent worship, responsive religious education, and active service in the world.
