When I thought I had launch controlled my car into a serious engine repair, ERR's staff calmed my nerves and left me assured I was in good hands. Where other shops could've taken advantage of me, these guys quickly and efficiently resolved a minor issue. Well my rebuilt s52 only lasted 289 miles :/ Ladies and Gentlemen...Be careful when choosing your shop to build your motor. I informed this shop (European Road & Racing in Charleston SC) that the head had machine work and the block was decked. Turns out every piston was slapping the head! Number 6 piston failed and literally blew up.

I tried my best to work with this shop to fix the problem but have only received a cold shoulder from what I thought was a "reputable shop". I now have a shop that wont fix the issue and a blown motor. They literally just bolted stuff down and gave it back to me. They told me they didnt measure anything. I didn't feel comfortable building this motor because of the knowledge to make sure of clearances etc..

Karl Troy @ European Road & Racing in Charleston SC has given me the cold shoulder and will not work with me. I am at loss of words and have a blown motor. He left me with a hack job and has no care to help out someone that is young with 3 kids.

Im only posting this to let other know to educate themselves and research your decision on the next shop you use.

European road and racing is absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend them for anything that has to do with your vehicle.
I have an 07 335i that as any e90 owner knows..... Loves to break and loves to do it randomly. My first visit I had a belt that kept shredding, and they figured out the problem that day (or early morning the next, I don't remember ) and let me know and what would fix it and how much, spent way less than I thought I was going to have to and from working at a shop previously I can promise you the shop I worked At would've charged double and do it wrong.
Not only did they do it correct and QUICK but I haven't had the problem since which is exactly what you want right ? Unlike most shops around Charleston that only temporarily fix the problem they make sure it is fixed. I've taken it there for an oil change, which while inspecting my car, they top of fluids as well and don't lie about anything being wrong with your car, again unlike most shops. This shop is the must trustworthy shop I have ever dealt with and when owning a car that gets expensive quick, it's good to know I have a shop on my side who goes above and beyond for what I need.

Karl's team rebuilt the engine in my 2001 Porsche 911 - it was a complicated take out rebuild and re-install .... probably the only team in the SouthEast USA that could do this. Hat's off you guys are awesome!

Karl just received a phone call from the owner of Bmw X5 client (Kinney's) they are very thankful for my referral to you and your amazing staff. As always we ALL appreciate your knowledge, honesty and last minute heroics for resolving the malfunction and returning fix vehicle so promptly back to them. Karl Troy is simply the best there is. He is honest and will never overcharge you. I trust him with all my foreign exotic cars and I am not even close to Charleston.

Having been around mechanical engineers and owning German cars for most of my adult life and being in need of diagnoses and repair on my VW new beetle turbo, I humbly approached Carl Troy at ERR and begged him to help me for a fair price as I am a poor Hospice nurse who has to have a reliable vehicle and a person who love bugs more than I value reason. Carl was professional, kind, honest and the quality of workmanship performed by him and his crewmates surpassed anything I have experienced from repair shops anywhere. I am still pinching myself when I think about the level of knowledge, experience and actual love that Carl puts into these cars: Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Lexus, Volvo and yes, the lowly VW. If you live within driving or towing distance and need your car cared for by people who value it, call ERR. Just being in the shop is an experience I want to have again and who would say that about getting your car repaired under normal circumstance. I cannot say enough about this place.....
