The Exchange shall serve as the voice of the construction industry in the Hampton Roads area by: Promoting a spirit of cooperation and good will among its members and among those participating in or interested in the construction industry.Cooperating with other groups, associations, or professional societies existing or formed for like purposes.Advising its members of new developments in the industry through a weekly bulletin, through the securing of plans and specifications of new and proposed work, and in any other way that will assist its members to keep in touch with new and additional work.Supporting legislation in the interest of the construction industry and the community; opposing legislation contrary to such interests.Formulating and promoting policies and procedures regarding invitations for bids, bidding, and contracting which are in the best interests of the membership and the community.Serving the various levels of government and the community with standing or special committees in matters wherein the special knowledge of its members can be of value, but not inconsistent with the aims of the Exchange. The Builders & Contractors Exchange, Inc. was organized to: advance the interests of the building industry.maintain a spirit of cooperation and good will among its members; andperform such services as needed to coordinate the building industry of Hampton Roads, Virginia.The Exchange owns and operates its own building at 1118 Azalea Garden Road, Norfolk. This facility accommodates the needs of the members with a conference room for group meetings and bid openings, work stations for preparing estimates and bids, and copiers and printers for duplication specifications for drawings. The Exchange operates a physical and electronic plans room where plans and specifications are displayed for the use of members desiring to take off quantities and submit quotations. Approximately 1,200 sets of plans are handled annually. Addenda and attachments are carefully recorded. These plans deal with commercial, industrial, institutional, public works, and government construction projects. The Exchange publishes a weekly Bulletin which contains a comprehensive listing of commercial, industrial, highway, utility, and institutional construction projects in the private, state and local government, and federal government sectors. The Bulletin also includes sections on low bidders, contracts awarded, safety, meetings and events, and other information of value to the construction industry. Annually publishes a Membership Directory and Buyer's Guide.
