I am absolutely horrified with my experience at this salon and that is an understatement.

I have been seeing Elizabeth for my color for the past 3+ years. My hair is blonde and as I am always traveling-spliting my time between Greece, Florida, and NY- my hair stays naturally light with the help of the sun and an occasional lemon.

Today I went in for a simple root single process- no higlights. If only it had been so simple...To make a long story short, after my hair was washed I sat down to dry my hair (I had no time for a long, drawn out blow dry) and felt the texture of my hair to be rubbery. I immediately went to Elizabeth and brought this to her attention. She immediately pulled the "I didn't touch the tips of your hair, your hair was damaged" line and asked her assistant to wash my hair again but with better conditioner.

Second go around, same thing. You could not even put a brush through my hair, it was that delicate! Pieces of hair already falling off in my hands, I decided to just dry it without a brush and after went to see her to show her my COMPLETELY FRIED hair. She snottily brushed off my concerns with "your hair was already damaged. I didn't do that. You can see the manger."

As I was speaking to the manager who was equally uninterested, she said I had come in like that and could recommend a treatment. She pointed out a Kerastase treatment I could "purchase." Purchase?! You destroy my hair and now I have to pay to fix it?! I said that the product should be on the house and she said she would see if that could happen. Upon her return, she had a one-time use microscopic bottle of a L'oreal product and said she could give me that because it was better (suurre...L'Oreal better than Kerastase???) At this point I am furious and ask to see the General Manager.

The General Manager appears- like every other staff member, equally as uninterested with my issue- and claims I walked into the salon that way. Really, how convenient. I demanded she roll the security tape so we could see how it was I came into the salon. She then recommended we use a treatment in my hair and have my hair blow dried again properly (blow dry just fried hair? Totally makes sense!) "If you're telling me I walked in like this," I said to her, "then it it 100% your colorist's fault because no colorist ever would've touched hair that looked like this!"

Only then did she offer to comp my botched hair coloring.

My interpretation: No accountability, no apology, utter rudeness, no interest in what happened, no remedy, and let's pretend the client is crazy and fried her own hair approach = completely unprofessional and UNACCEPTABLE!

I decided to get a trim with Luca Blandi at the Oscar Blandi Salon. I showed him two pictures of what I wanted (one was a picture of me) and I came in with my hair styled so that he could see how I wear it. One of the first things that Luca said to me was that he was "having a bad day, and was not in a good mood." Looking back, even though it would have been extremely awkward, I really wish that I had just gotten out of the chair and left at that point.

I wear my hair very long, just past my bra strap, with pretty face framing layers that start around my chin. At shortest, when they are dry, the reach my lower lip. As Luca's assistant was blow drying my hair, I realized that Luca had taken it upon himself to give me bangs. Very strange, awkwardly cut bangs, that no matter how much time and effort I put into them, can't be styled to look good. I'm so sad about my hair, I can't even explain it. It feels like I have a mullet, and I can't understand why someone would do this to my hair.

Everytime I see a friend and they say: you got bangs? I feel so upset. Why do hairstylists feel it is ok to do something completely different than what you ask for? This haircut will take 10 months to a year to look normal again. I would not ever visit this salon again, I'm devastated by this awful haircut.

Oscar Blandi Salon isn't up to...

Oscar Blandi Salon isn't up to snuff. I had a cut from Oscar himself years and years ago when he was at the Plaza (when it was only a hotel). The salon and his cut was great back then; I was paying premium price for premium/luxe service. This salon on Madison now... I don't know where they get the staff. The place seems like a corner bodega where the feeling of impeccable service and ambiance is just Not there. It's far from the well oiled machine that Fred Fekkai has running, though it's supposed to be in the same category. No one greeted me upon arrival, no direction on what to expect, where to go for coats and robe, just one confusion after another, while watching some of the staff read magazines and chat loudly with each other.. no one "selling the dream" of an Oscar Blandi Salon experience. What is worse is the attitude of the actual hair people at this salon. I came in excited to get a color done for a big milestone birthday. The colorist talked me out of going lighter, which was an opinion I was fine with, but the colorist could have kept her attitude to herself.. in I believe was a bit of a ghetto accent and a hard demeanor, she told me "I'm not gonna be responsible if you don't like it and if you wanna that color, you'll have to sign a release that I'm not responsible!" I was appalled to be spoken to in that manner and the gall to even be told that I would have to sign a release, all After I already told her that I agreed not to color my hair at all. If the website had an email to Oscar Blandi himself, I probably would have sent him a note about her too. Part of paying these big prices for our locks should be a guarantee in being treated well. Skip this Salon!
