Run AWAY!!!

New York Career Institute is on its last legs. It is the most unorganized and unprofessional school I have EVER had the misfortune of coming across. The minute you get there you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait to get anything done. They have the MOST unprofessional receptionists to greet you. They act as if they are BOTHERED that you actually asked them to direct you to where you need to be. IT IS YOUR JOB!!!! What are you so pissed off about? They need to learn a lot about customer service. If someone is busy or with someone or is on a break-YOU LET THE PERSON WAITING KNOW ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!! So, they aren't sitting there thinking "well why didn't they pick up the phone to contact who I need to be in touch with?" Then you sit there and wait for twenty minutes and the receptionist still does not tell you what is going on. Alll you need to do is SIMPLY tell the person that the person is tied up and will be with you when they are done. Easy right? Not for these girls. Also, you get the benefit of loud and annoying conversation while you wait interminably for someone to help you. The male staff hitting on the young females. The girls laughing and joking not paying attention to their job and being annoyed if they actually have to help someone. It is preposterous. The tuition is HIGH for the type of customer service that you get. This is a FOR PROFIT school. If I am giving you all my money the least you could do is be personable and professional!!! Also, financial aid is slow in keeping up with correct records--the balance on your account will never read what it should read because they are always behind! You will also never get your grades on time. So, while you are plodding along in the next semester you may have failed your last class and you wouldn't know it. It has been the end of classes for a week and a half and students STILL have not gotten their grades. Can you imagine if a university actually functioned like that? Who would go there? I think the school may have been a really good school years and years ago when they were actually interested in creating court reporters. Their court reporting theory isn't practical, the teacher's are jaded and the school is used to function as mill where they get in as many new theory students as possible, who quickly drop out because of the environment and then they get money for the new naive crop of students. Nice huh? At 3,500 a student/a semester they make a pretty penny---I wonder where it goes? Not in equipment--the software we are supposed to use as court reporting students is usually not functioning the way the teacher is explaining that it should be. The theory book they use does NOT match the dictionary they have installed in their software! That means that despite what you learn it will be wrong in the software and wrong in your notes. The teacher I had would show up late (we had to be there by 5:45), be late coming back from breaks and act like every question you had should have been common sense! She is a court reporter, NOT AN INSTRUCTOR, she doesn't have the patience for it and she shouldn't be doing it because all she does is discourage. I wouldn't even go to this school for any of the the other majors they offer. Just dealing with the main office alone isn't worth it. It isn't worth the headache and it isn't worth the stress. If it was cheaper then yes, I would say go for it, but not for 22,500 for two years and if you are in court reporting and you take longer to get out (because you can't reach your speed, which will happen a lot to a lot of students), why that is extra money in their pocket. Run from this school, run quickly, its glory days are over.
