General Info
Matthew McNeill, MD is a member of Summit Healths Gastroenterology team. Dr. McNeill focuses on a wide range of digestive and liver diseases and symptoms, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bowel overgrowth, functional bowel disease, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, and other autoimmune conditions as well as heartburn/reflux disease, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea/vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, gastrointestinal cancers, swallowing problems, and disorders of the esophagus, stomach, liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas. He also offers screening/surveillance colonoscopy and endoscopy. He has a special interest in colon cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and LGBTQ health. Dr. McNeill is a proud native of North Carolina. He completed his undergraduate education at Duke University, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Public Policy. He obtained his M.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where his service and scholarly pursuits were recognized with induction into both the Community Service and Research honor societies. Dr. McNeill relocated from North Carolina to New York City for his internship and residency at the New York University School of Medicine. Recognized for his outstanding patient care and passion for education, he was selected to serve as Chief Resident of the NYU Internal Medicine Residency. He remained at NYU for gastroenterology fellowship, where he served as chief fellow and was elected into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. McNeill comes from a family of physicians, which includes his grandfather, mother, sister, and brother, so caring for patients is in my blood, he says. He enjoys both the intellectual and social aspects of medicine noting that, You become an integral part of someones life, often helping them at their most vulnerable time. Theres nothing quite as rewarding. Dr. McNeill strives to involve his patients in the decision-making process, carefully explaining possible diagnoses, associated work-ups, and available treatment plans. Dr. McNeills research has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed publications and he has presented at multiple national conferences. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Outside of work, Dr. McNeill is an avid traveler. He enjoys exploring all aspects of New York City; seeing Broadway shows, trying new restaurants, and visiting the museums and parks. He is an enthusiastic reader and cinephile. His favorite job is being an uncle to his niece and nephew.
