General Info
Welch & McLoy Therapy Services provides occupational, physical and speech-language therapy services to infants, toddlers and children ages birth through 21. We also provide therapy services to adults with developmental delays. Treatment approaches emphasize normalization of gross motor, fine motor, perceptual, speech, language, and cognitive skills. Interventions are individually tailored to each child's development within an interdisciplinary team approach. Parental involvement is encouraged throughout the therapeutic process and seen as an important part of the program. Our clinic has a strong belief in Sensory Integration theory. This theory postulates that a child's ability to integrate, process and respond to information gathered through the senses of vision, hearing, taste, touch, smell, gravity and body position in space affects learning. Problems with sensory integration would lead to problems with learning. Intervention based on Sensory Integration theory would involve the whole child and how he/she interacts with the world. Using this theory, Welch & McLoy Therapy Services, PA utilizes a strong play-based approach. We analyze the child's play skills and responses during each treatment session. Activities are adapted to the child to allow for a "just right" challenge. When appropriately challenged, a child can complete tasks successfully. Success builds confidence and self-esteem that allows for carry-over of learned skills to other situations. Welch & McLoy Therapy Services, PA works with children and adults with a variety of diagnoses including: Attention deficit disorder; learning disabilities; hyperactivity; coordination disorders and sensory processing difficulties Autism; pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) and related diagnoses. Developmental delays resulting from: congenital anomalies, genetic abnormalities, orthopedic conditions and prematurity. Dyspraxia, tremors, gross and fine motor impairment which interfere with a child's function Psychological problems: ODD, bi-polar disorder, depression, etc. Neurological disorders Orthopedic problems Handwriting or reading deficits Articulation disorders Phonological Disorders (sound error patterns) Swallowing Disorders Tongue Thrusting Oral motor difficulties Dysarthria (muscle weakness affecting speech) Other deficits inhibiting developmental progress Postural Strength Welch & McLoy Therapy Services, PA was started in 1992 by Margaret A. McLoy, OTR/L for the purpose of providing occupational therapy services to children and developmentally delayed adults in the New Port Richey area. The company has grown steadily since its inception by providing high quality of care and practice in a family run practice. In 1993 Margaret was joined in this pediatric practice by Richard J. McLoy, M.S., CCC-SLP/L to provide speech-language services and in 1994 by Christine Cruz-Cooper, RPT/L to provide physical therapy services. The three partners have worked together to provide multi-disciplinary, child centered therapy. As well as the initial partners, professional staff has been augmented by the addition of professional and paraprofessional staff in the areas of occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology. Our office staff is professional and dedicated to providing a high level of support services. They work hard to facilitate services to our clients
