On a typically hot July summer...

On a typically hot July summer day In 1966 my fiance, now wife, and I first entered Napoleon House for a late afternoon drink. We were greeted by a portly, balding waiter attired in a full white apron. He seated us at a small round table under a paddle fan that pretended to stir the thick New Orleans air. An old 78 Caruso record was playing on the record player. I looked around and expected to see Humphrey Bogart sitting at the bar. We ordered Jack Daniels on the rocks. The price was .75cents per glass!!! (as I recall it was the weekday special). If you want to feel the soul of N.O. Napoleon House is it. P.S. The seafood gumbo is the best!!

Renowned for its refreshing Pimm’s Cup cocktail, warm muffuletta sandwich, and “dishy” history as a proffered refuge for the embattled and exiled ex-Emperor of France, the century-old Napoleon House is a French Quarter icon exuding the patina, charm, and authenticity of living history. This 200-year old landmark was recently awarded 2019 "Timeless American" award by Tales of the Cocktail for being a pillar in the community and having provided a benchmark for the industry.Renowned for its refreshing Pimm’s Cup cocktail, warm muffuletta sandwich, and “dishy” history as a proffered refuge for the embattled and exiled ex-Emperor of France, the century-old Napoleon House is a French Quarter icon exuding the patina, charm, and authenticity of living history.
