Old trim on older homes have a oil paint on them, remember to prep and prime this trim with an oil primer before using a latex finish. I do this because of the calcium in the old oil paints used back then. If you paint over this kind of "old oil" finish, your latex coating will not adhere and will fail. It might have already been painted wrong, let me fix it by turning this mistake, from a previous painter, around. I use latex finishes mainly because of the way oil finishes seam to turn a little yellow after a certain amount of time. Latex will not yellow.
