General Info

Robert Barrows is the President of R.M. Barrows, Inc Advertising and Public Relations in Burlingame, California. The firm was established in San Francisco in 1980 and incorporated in 1981. Barrows moved the company to Burlingame in 1990, after the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989 damaged the building in which his San Francisco office was located. Before opening his own business, Barrows was the Vice-President of an ad agency called Greif & Associates, Inc, which was also located in Burlingame. He worked at Greif and Associates from 1977-1980. Prior to that, Barrows sold advertising time for KCBS-FM in San Francisco, from 1975-1977, and he worked as a sales assistant at CBS in New York in their CTS National Sales Department from 1973-1975. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 9, 1950 and he grew up on Long Island, in Hewlett, New York. He graduated from Hewlett High School in June 1967 and went to college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He graduated from Northwestern in June 1971, with a B.S. in Speech. He majored in Radio, Television and Film. After graduation, Barrows went to Hollywood. His first job out of college was as a Production Assistant on the Steve Allen Show in 1971. After that, Barrows worked for other companies in and around Hollywood, including Bob Banner Associates, National Cinema Corporation and KHJ Television in Los Angeles. He moved back to New York in 1973, where he started working for CBS. In addition to doing advertising, Barrows is also the inventor of The Video Enhanced Gravemarker, ( a video tombstone ) U.S. Patent #7, 089, 495. He is also the author of a forthcoming novel called Cemetery of Lies. Cemetery of Lies is a collection of intimate secret confessions, as told from beyond the grave, through video tombstones. The stories are about life and love, sex and romance, success and money, good and evil and heaven and hell, with insights and advice about almost every aspect of our lives. He has also written a booklet on advertising called The Barrows Popularity Factor. The Barrows Popularity Factor is an easy-to-use mathematical equation that actually lets you quantify the relationship between advertising and sales. The poem is about the loss of jobs and the consequences of the outsourcing of jobs. The poem can be read at: He is also a sculptor. He works primarily in stone and you may view some of his artwork in The Barrows Art Gallery He has also co-written and produced a couple of hip-hop songs called Big Bucks and Run For Office. The songs are about money and politics. The songs are available on a two-song CD, which you may order from R.M. Barrows, Inc He also produced and hosted his own radio show on KBPA ( 1220 AM ) in San Francisco in 1997. The show was a series of half-hour interview shows on the Success Stories of various business leaders and entertainers. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce and he has also been an Alternate on the San Mateo County Central Democratic Committee. Robert Barrows also ran for Congress in the Democratic Primary in the 12th Congressional District in California in 2006 and 2008.
