The Morro Bay Police Department is a public safety agency that maintains peace and order, protects property and personal safety, and enforces various federal, state and local laws. It provides a range of community services, such as bicycle registration, house checks, crime prevention and concealed weapon permits. The Morro Bay Police Department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The police department operates a communication center that serves as a link and answering point between the public and public safety organizations, as well as responds to emergency and nonemergency public safety-related calls.
