I had the most wonderful experience using the family birth center. I started out in Naples with an OB when I got pregnant. The environment was so cold and sterile I needed to find some other option. When asking the OB doctors if there were any midwives in town, they replied no as I learned that this is a town where doctors were very threatened by these natural ways with the exception if maybe 2 I have heard. Every other town in the US seems to have midwives working with OBs, not here in Naples. When I arrived at the Family Birth Center Of Naples, I was pleasantly surprised. From the outside it looks like an office building, when I walked in I was recieved with smiling/welcoming faces and the midwife Dawn sat with me for an hour & gave me a tour! Every appointment after that felt the same with no rushing, the midwife personally answering any questions & concerns. I felt so nurtured! I even got a cold & did not want to take medicine & she helped me through it with natural remedies. Once I went into labor it was such a peaceful experience. All of my friends who delivered in hospitals reported they were strapped to their beds on monitors & couldn't move about. Not here, I was able to walk, be in the tub, squat etc without being strapped to these monitors. My husband was even able to deliver her once her head was safely out & also cut the cord! I love the Family birth center and would recommend it to anyone who is low risk:)
