- MRIThe advantage of silicone implants are they feel more natural and look more natural than saline. Saline implants can wrinkle and thus look and feel less natural. On the other hand, ruptured silicone implants can be difficult to detect and can cause local inflammation resulting in granulomas. Therefore, the FDA recommends MRI 3 years after surgery and every 2 years thereafter for silicone implants to monitor for undetected leaks or ruptures. If a saline implant leaks or ruptures, the saline is safely absorbed by the body.

- LiposuctionExcess fat within the upper arm requires liposuction to remove the fat. Laxity of the skin requires an incision and a potential scar to remove or excise the excess skin. The scar placement and length of the scar depends on the location and amount of lax skin. If both excess skin and fat are present, liposuction and excision of skin are needed. Let’s look at some examples.
- Breast AugmentationYou must be older than 18 years for breast augmentation and older than 22 years for use of silicone implants
- Breast Reduction
- Breast LiftA breast lift is known as a mastopexy. In combination with augmentation it is known as augmentation mastopexy. Common indications for needing a lift with augmentation include postpartum atrophy of the breasts with associated ptosis, if the nipple position is below the level of the breast fold, massive weight loss patients, or if there is no visible skin below the areola when viewed in a standing position. The decision for a lift in combination with an augmentation should be made in coordination and discussion with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
- RhinoplastyRhinoplasty enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose. It can also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose.
- Breast ReconstructionBreast reconstruction is primarily performed on women who have had one or both breasts removed due to cancer or at risk for cancer. It may also be appropriate for women who have suffered trauma to the breast or have a deformity. Our physicians offer several types of reconstructive options, including flap procedures (using skin and tissue from another area of the patient’s body to recreate the breast), tissue expanders and implant placement.

- Thigh LiftThigh lift surgery reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body.
- Face LiftA mid-face or cheek lift is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the nasolabial folds and cheeks. As we age, the fat which is overlying the cheek (called the malar fat pad) drops. As a result, patients experience a flattened appearance to the cheeks, noticeably more prominent nasolabial folds, and a drooping of the corners of the mouth. A mid-face lift will re-elevate the malar fat pad to restore the volume loss to your cheeks, lessen the appearance of nasolabial folds, and lift the corners of the mouth.
- Neck LiftA neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck, such as...

- AbdominoplastyTummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
- Nose SurgeryNose surgery that’s done to improve an obstructed airway requires careful evaluation of the nasal structure as it relates to airflow and breathing. Correction of a deviated septum, one of the most common causes of breathing impairment, is achieved by adjusting the nasal structure to produce better alignment.
- Body LiftA body lift improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin. Excess sagging skin and fat are removed and the procedure(s) can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface, which is commonly known as cellulite.
- OtoplastyEar surgery, also known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear. This procedure can correct a defect in the ear structure that is present at birth that becomes apparent with development or it can treat misshapen ears caused by injury.

- Body ContouringSmartlipo MPX works by heating the skin from underneath and melting away the fat and can be performed on almost all areas of the body. Along with body contouring, it offers significant skin tightening in a way that traditional liposuction cannot. This procedure requires only a few small incisions for the laser to be able to reach the fat cells under the skin. Through these sites the laser will be able to liquefy the fat cells while it is simultaneously cauterizing the area. This cauterizing minimizes the bleeding and bruising that one might have experienced with traditional liposuction. In fact, Cynosure’s Smartlipo MPX allows the patient little or no downtime. - GynecomastiaOur physicians work with men who suffer from gynecomastia, a condition involving the overdevelopment of breast tissue and enlarged breasts. The breast can be reduced by means of liposuction and/or by excision of the excess glandular tissue.
- Cosmetic SurgeryA “tummy tuck” is a cosmetic surgery that involves rejuvenation of the abdomen and flanks. Your plastic surgeon may also refer to this procedure as an abdominoplasty. There are three major components of a tummy tuck – management of excess skin, contouring of excess fat, and tightening of the abdominal muscles.
- Bariatric SurgeryLast, the above picture represents a patient with severe skin laxity that extends on the chest. This is typical in patients who have experienced massive weight loss due to bariatric surgery. These patients require an extended brachioplasty in which the scar runs along the brachial groove as in a traditional brachioplasty, but also is extended onto the chest wall as shown below.
- Forehead LiftA brow lift is a surgical procedure that helps to improve the contour and position of the eyebrow, as well as to eliminate the furrows and wrinkles that result in a sad, tired, or angry appearance. As we age, the eyebrow descends and flattens and our eyebrows lose the normal arch, creating a sagging appearance to our upper eyes. A brow lift or forehead lift will restore the brows’ normal position and arch, and it can also eliminate the furrows/wrinkles of the forehead.
