General Info
The Morris County Sheriff's Office is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency located in Morris County Courthouse, a historic landmark in the heart of Morristown, New Jersey. In existence since 1739, its members serve a population of more than 490, 000 citizens spread out over 477 square miles. Under the leadership of Sheriff Edward V. Rochford, the Morris County Sheriff's Office and its 337 officers and employees is responsible for providing highly technical and specialized services to local law enforcement agencies. A significant milestone was reached in March of 1998 when the Morris County Sheriff's Office became the first sheriff's office in New Jersey to earn national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), an honor bestowed on those agencies that represent the best in law enforcement in North America. At the time, only 42 of 3, 088 sheriff's offices in the United States had earned this accreditation. In June of 2004, Sheriff Rochford and the Morris County Sheriff's Office became the 24th law enforcement agency in the United States to receive the "Triple Crown Award" from the National Sheriffs' Association. Achieving this award is such a rarity that even five years later, fewer than forty sheriff's offices nationwide have qualified for this prestigious honor. The Triple Crown distinction is bestowed upon sheriff's offices which have simultaneously earned accreditation from three separate agencies-the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the Commission on Accreditation for the American Correctional Association (ACA), and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). In meeting or exceeding the high standards set forth by the foregoing agencies, the Morris County Sheriff's Office achieved this coveted status as a direct result of the outstanding effort, diligence, professionalism and teamwork put forth on a daily basis by the officers and employees of this agency. We are most proud of our working relationship with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and its staff and Morris County Chiefs of Police Association.
