Holy cow!! When a burger is this good I am a woman of very MANY words. Just went there for the first time and I absolutely loved, loved, loved, the food! I tried a couple of the specials that they had for the night. The purple haze burger was incredible. I loved the super subtle lavender in the cheese, I also tasted some of my friends celeriac soup. I wasn't sure that I would like it but it was creamy and hearty and delicious. Beers on tap are unique and fun if you like trying new beers. Our waitress, (the curly haired girl) who was awesome! Recommended the specials and beers to go with them. (Thank you!) I'm happy the bar goes through the trouble of educating their staff on all of the things they serve. It was so pleasant to go somewhere and have the waitress know not only what was on the menu but, be able to describe it in a way that is user friendly. I will recommend this place to everyone.

I'm new to N.E. and wanted to try a new bar, So I coaxed some friends across the river from uptown to try the Bulldog N.E. with me. We picked a good night. I tried this beer that they had on special, I guess on Wednesdays they usually have a firkin, but last night they had this beer that ran through a cooler type thing from a keg next to it. It was good but not as great as some of the other belgians that they had on tap. I also had an Orstrich patty melt. I was a little hesitant but the waitress convinced me it was great. She was right! It was lean and perfectly cooked with this awesome mustard ale cheese and caramelized onions. It was different but so so good. If i hadn't already eaten my wieght in tater tots I might have gotten two. The service was relaxed and casual but attentive and knowledgable. The atmosphere was totally different than I expected. I thought it would be kind of dark and dingy with low ceilings like the other Bulldog. But it was long with super high ceilings, exposed brick and a giant bar right in the middle. I'm excited to have this kind of bar right in my neighborhood and plan to make it a regular spot!

Went for lunch. Chicago Dog below average with weird relish. Fries good. House burger good. We were disappointed. Service was barely average. Table dirty. Flies were landing on our heads, as well as landing on the people at the table next to us.

On a quiet Tuesday night, we found the food adequate, the service incompetent. This seems to be a common experience at Bulldog NE.
The junk burger was fine, but nothing close to the best in town. (For that, look to the Nook, Matt's, Capital Grill, the Dakota, and about ten other places before Bulldog.) The truffle fries aren't a bad idea, but in execution, they turn out to be so drenched in truffle oil that they quickly become overpowering and unpleasant. The only truly bad food of the evening was the chicken liver pate, on the otherwise-tasty cold cut plate. The pate had gone bad, enough so that my wife had to (expectorate) it out, and thought she might be sick. When she let the server know, the server was initially indifferent, and then, after consulting with the kitchen, conveyed the chef's response that that my wife clearly didn't know what chicken livers are supposed to taste like. (Evidently, at Bulldog they're supposed to taste spoiled, malodorous and metallic.) Finally, when the bill came, in a real show of class the server took two dollars (!) off the tab. This gives an idea of where customer satisfaction lies on Bulldog's spectrum of priorities.
On the plus side, great beer selection!

What do you know? Another glowing review for Bulldog NE! We found out about this little gem about 1.5 years ago while talking to the Bells beerrRep at the Twin Cities Food & Wine Show. My beautiful wife loves Bells Two Hearted and we were always looking for other places that served the beer. (Since that time, you would be hard-pressed to find a good bar that doesn't serve at least 2 Bell's products.) Anyway, this place is a perfect spot for drinks, fantastic burgers (I think they have 10+ variations - including the ""Junk"" burger), shuffleboard, or sitting inside and listening to great music on their jukebox. Don't be afraid to try the ""Chicken & Waffles"" if you want to - people I have been with loved it! Consistently great service, excellent food, and great beer selection. If you like dark beers, please try the Young's Double Chocolate Stout . . . yummy. Reading the previous Canadian review - make sure you bring valid US ID. Ha!

Last summer I came here to work and hung out with some cousins at this restaurant. Though it has been some time, I must say that I was blown away by the place. The fact that I remember its name speaks volumes. For starters, their beer selection is intimidating but their servers are more than happy to help guide you. They take multi taps to a whole new level, containing at least 20 and possessing 30 additional ones. I was delighted to hear that they carry Chimay, my favorite beer.
Now as for the food, their menu is full of American classics made perfects. For the fries, kick it up a notch (sorry Emeril) by adding white truffles to it. Its taste is not one you will soon forget. Their burgers are grilled to perfection. True, the busier that place can get the longer it will take for you to get seated and served, they can't defy the laws of physics. But regardless my food came to me fresh off the grill, still steaming. And our burgers were among the best that I have ever had. One of my cousins is a very picky eater but had no shame as he messily devoured his meal. Another one is a strict vegetarian and had no difficulty or complaints about his veggie burger.
Now as to the service, it was decent considering that the place was packed (we had to wait 25 minutes to be seated) and that each server waited on many tables. Still, ours made every effort to be polite, quick, and helpful. Additionally, I used to wait tables and understand how stressful that job can be. Yet our lady endured it with a smile, and earned a positive place in my memory.
The Atmosphere is hard to explain. Although I love sports bars, I was not a fan of the atmosphere of this one. Still I am not complaining and eagerly wait for an opportunity to return. I'm taking my parents out to dinner tonight, perhaps I will introduce them to this place?
I AM SORRY BUT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW To SPACE FOR PARAGRAPHS, COULD YOU EDIT THIS. Should be after 6th, and then 8 later, 4, Thanks

Having found this bar here on citysearch, my girlfriend and I thought it sounded like a good place to go for a couple beers and a bite to eat while we were in the twin cities on a little vacation. Unfortunately we didn't get to find out, since they refused to serve us since we ""only"" had government issued Canadian drivers licenses. Evidently they don't accept ""out of country identification"" except for passports. So, despite the fact that our ID is good enough to get through the US border, evidently the security standards for this bar are a good deal more strict. I mean who's heard of Canada anyways, they're probably fake, right? By the way we're both 26. I've honestly never seen anything so preposterous in my life, but, as I was told ""it's our bar and we can make whatever rules we want.""

I have ate here a few times. Each time the food was fantastic! Most recently I ordered the Rooster burger, and I have to say it was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. I ordered it cooked medium and it was cooked to perfection. I also ordered it with the truffle fries. I think I could have ate those as a meal in itself. The service was great, and it only took about 15 minutes for my food. It looked packed inside, so I was expecting to have a wait.
I've also eaten the nachos and wings late at night and was surprised by the shear volume of food, the taste was great too. I've never had a problem getting seated with a table. Also, the prices are reasonable and leaves me plenty of money to drink. I keep hearing about the beer, but i don't like beer. All I know is the mixed drinks aren't watered down.
The only thing negative i would have to say is...On the busier nights I have been there, it was kind of hard to find parking. I think we had to drive around the block a few times before a meter opened up.
I'll definitely go back!!!!

The Bulldog in Northeast has become my new favorite hangout in the neighborhood. The food is much tastier and more interesting than your usual bar fair. I'm addicted to the truffle tater tots. They also have an overwhelming beer selection, but don't worry, the staff is always ready and willing to give recomendations. Between the beer, the shuffelboard table and the fun group of people they have working there I always have a great time when I end up at this bar. Weekends at the Bulldog are always busy so you might want to call ahead if you're heading down with a group, but it's worth the wait.

My girlfriend and I went here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and had the worst dining experience I have ever had. I would give the place ZERO STARS if I could. When we got there we waited 30 minutes when we were told there was a 5 minute wait. Bad Start. Then once we were seated at a table that was placed directly behind the hostess stand without hardly room enough to pull out my chair we did not see a server for at least 20 minutes, we had to go to the bar and get our own drinks. Getting worse. Once our server finally made it to our table he took our orders for the appetizer and our dinners without apologizing for the wait, or telling us the specials. Then as we waited for our appetizers I noticed that tables that had been seated after us were eating their meals already. Now this is really bad. So I was finally able to flag down our server to see what the hold up was. We had only ordered wings, a burger and a salad. So he went into the kitchen and came back out and told us that our food would be out in a couple of minutes. Over 45 minutes after we had ordered (and 15 minutes after we were told a couple of minutes) our food arrived. Our appetizer arrived with the meal, which does me no good at this point in time. The salad that my girlfriend ordered came with the wrong kind of dressing, and my burger was not cooked (and I don't mean just prepared rare) and it was cold. I mean call me crazy, but in 45 minutes you could at least warm up a burger over a candle if you had to. There are no excuses this. In conclusion, this was by far the worst dining experience of my life and would recommend that nobody waste their time or money by going to this establishment. HORRIBLE RESTARAUNT!!!

I have to say it again, if you like beer go here. And no, don't order a macrobrew!!!! Bud and miller (yes they have those if you must) fans think outside the box and order some of the great Belgian beer, or how bout an Urthel!!! My favorite is the Youngs double chocolate. Enjoy!!!!

After visiting the Bulldog friday night and having somewhat of a disconcerting experience around service, I was very pleased to have management follow up on the problems that my group experienced while at their establishment. A transparency exists where the success and shine of the restaurant are highlighted in how the owner, Amy, executes her vision in the look, the class and the follow through when things go wrong.

I went there last Fri, and it was busy, but not insane, and it was WAY past dinner time, and there wasn't a visible ""please wait to be seated"" or hostess thing going on, so we went to the back bar and got a table, ordered drinks from the waitress....and then a different waitress (or something) came over and said she was planning to seat someone else there and made us get up and move! After we had ordered from a different waitress! We got up from the table and walked out by the front bar, and were told we couldn't stand there either. Clearly, we just left altogether since we were such an inconvenience for the staff of the Bulldog NE. The funny thing? The Bulldog actually sponsors a co-ed sports team that my friends and I play on, and we are extremely loyal customers. I don't think we should have received special treatment, but the fact remains, they made it impossible for us to spend our money there. I've tried quite a few things on the menu- and all have been good, but The Bulldog NE is really just a bar that is a dime a dozen in Minneapolis, and I'd recommend going elsewhere for the same quality food- and much better service.

If you loved the fun atmosphere of the former bar Boom you'll continue to love the new high tables and clean lines.
The menu is just right; no long endless choices but a good selection of burgers for anyones desires (vegetarian too). Most can be served up fresh with tater tots on the side. The portions are just right (no oversized American feasts here). Reasonable prices and reasonable drinks to boot.
The day we were there the server was not on top of her game; wasn't familar with the one burger at all and was kind of slow; but it didn't appear to be true indicator of the rest of the staff.

Ever have a good meal whose aftertaste is ruined by the server before you even get out the door? Welcome to the Bulldog NE. To keep the story short, I ordered a Junk Burger with Brie (choice of cheese) and seasoned tatertots. Soon the waitress came back to say they don't have brie anymore, to which I pointed her to the menu, where there's a Truffle Burger with Brie. Without too much of a wait, another server delivered my order, except that it was now a Truffle burger! When I explained what happened, he gladly corrected it. Ok, not the worst of things, but clearly the main server doesn't know the menu. However, when the check came it still showed a truffle burger and an additional $2 or $3 for the tots. Wait a minute, I said. I didn't order the Truffle burger and didn't eat one. And you had said fries came with and never said anything about an extra charge for tatertots. It's an extra dollar she says. Well, $9 (or $10) plus $1 doesn't add up to $12, which the check showed. Her ""I'll take care of it"" was to take everything off but the beer, to which I shook my head in disgust. I mean, the food was very good and I was ready and expected to pay for what I had eaten. It's been decades since I didn't leave a tip, and I was tempted, but she had made a very good beer recommendation. So I figured 42 cents, to round the bill to an even dollar, would cover it and get across the point.
Afterwards, the friend who had sent me there mentioned having had a similar experience with the service.
To find the restaurant I had to walk around the NE, because an internet search only turns up a Bulldog restaurant on South Lyndale. It's something you'd think the NE one would have taken steps to fix.

I had previously written a not so good review for the Bulldog. I was convinced to try it again and I must say they were totally redeemed. I've worked in the service industry alot and will chaulk almost anything up to a bad night. I've been back 3 times now since and have had wonderful experiences everytime. Our original server even recognized us the second time and came over and apologized for the first time we were there. I will definitely go back. I had intended to simply remove my original bad review, but can't figure out how to do it on this site, so I'm just editing the original to say Bravo!

Living in the neighborhood, I finally got my husband to try Bulldog. Once we ate, he was upset we hadn't gone before! The food is great, the beer selection is really great and reasonably priced, and the atmopshere was also very cool. I thought the staff was very nice, and the crowd seemed eclectic enough to not just be stuffy/trendy types. The outdoor seating is nice as well.
My husband had the Good Morning burger, which he loved; and I had the bacon cheeseburger with the truffle fries. Plan to share those fries - they are rich!

I've been going to the Bulldog in NE for a few months now. I saw the review in the Citypages and had to check it out. I loved everything about it! The staff is easy going, friendly and most importantly good at what they do. I noticed that they all have large sections (being a server myself I notice those things). The owners must know what they are doing because everyone on their staff is strong and very capable of handleing a full section..plus. The food leaves nothing to be desired! It's great! I've tried almost everything on the menu and the only thing I don't like is the steak tartar..raw meat served in the shape of a pyramid. Not a fan but I'm sure some people like it since its on the menu..still. It seems the busier it is the longer it takes to get your food, but it's hot and perfect when it gets here. Thats all that matters! The selection of beers is the best in town..24 taps and a list of bottles maybe 30+. I can't stress enough...go there and be hooked for life!

I like this place because it is enough of a bar that it is easy to drink a cold beer and watch the timberwolves lose a 30 point lead , but it's restauranty enough that you can have a good meal. They have a wide variety of beers and a few old stand-bys. Their specialty drinks are big and the food is better than I would expect from a bar. I've read that this place is supposed to be more restauranty but it feels and looks like a bar even though it has fancier ingredients in the food. The staff is good natured and some of them are pretty funny. If you've been there before there is a good chance they will remember you.
