Great Burgers and good fries.. I had the Good mornig burger my friend had the spicy one? we both ate every bite. Will be back for more .
Alright, i've been to the Bulldog a plethora of times over the years. I know places are hit and miss and you need to gve places more than one chance. When i first started going there the food and drinks were much better and higher quality my friends and i loved going there and it was always a good time! I do have to commend them for trying to encorporate all this new food they have, but it's just way too much and unfortunately it takes away from the dishes that made them a sensation in the first place. They do havea great happy hour, staff is nice, but lacking a quippe edge that use to be. The babbling brooks of a few members of the wait staff and the rank BO of others is a bit off putting. Whatever generally it takes a really nasty waitstaff for me not to return to a place and i'm not saying that the staff is that way at all. They do have a pretty nice patio for a sidewalk! Well stop in and hope your experience is a good one, think i need to keep the good memories of the Bulldog and just stop trying to make it anything than what it is now, a sports bar with mediocre food and a good spot to catch a game. Oh but do get a cupcake!
Went with a large group of about 10 or so. The burgers which were supposed to be done were left a pool of blood on the plate. The buns were soaked with blood. One guest ordered a Philly Steak sandwich and found some of the meat uncooked. How can one not cook a Philly thoroughly? It's thinly slicked meat cooked hard.
The waitstaff spent more time talking to each other and the bartender than actually doing their jobs. When members complained that there medium and medium well burgers were bleeding they acted put off by actually meeting the customers request. Pretty sure that chef burned a burger char-black that was sent back because it was bleeding.
wow $50 for a couple of burgers and a couple of beers. Cheese not melted on burger (what kind of cook does this?, I mean come on!). Service slow as usual. I've given this place my business steadily for a couple of years. Now I am done with it.
Highly recommend any of the other establishments in the area instead.
In all fairness, Bulldog in Uptown serves pretty good food, and has better service. So go there instead.
Incredible cupcakes!!! The owner himself actually suggested them! Incredible. Pretty good burgers too.
I love NE! The bartender was busier talking to the waitress then waiting on us. We felt like we were bothering him by being here. I asked the waitress no help there. Will not be back!!! We will enjoy the rest of NE around them!
If you want to be treated rudely and threatened if you complain, then this place is definitely for you. In their tiny cramped bar area you can enjoy the rude treatment and dismissive condescension from their wait staff, and when they get your order wrong (don't worry--they will) and you ask them to fix it, it will be your fault entirely. Expect them to use profanity on complainers and to physically threaten and intimidate anyone who objects to their poor treatment.
In terms of value for money, you'd be better off eating out of a garbage can (likely healthier and cleaner too)--when your order does finally arrive, expect to feel ripped off. The portions will be small enough that you'll wonder what you're really paying for, the quality of the ingredients will be stale, and you'll just feel like a fool for going there in the first place.
This place is pretty decent. I like all of the workers; they're cool but not dorks about it. I failed to see any of these professionals, although I don't know if they were just condo-dwellers in disguise. I just saw a bunch of drunks and a few old school skaters.
I like the place and, out of all of what Northeast has to offer, the Bulldog has one of the more unique menus. The food is tasty but nothing will wow you.
On Memorial weekend, my husband and I went to the Bulldog for the first time. Sunday, a.m., we went in, and there really was NO ONE their except 3 other customers. We ordered bloody marys from a waitress, who acted VERY PUT UPON to be working, didn't BOTHER to tell us that there were 2 different kinds. Then, acted very annoyed when we decided not to order food. We looked at the menu, and later decided (on Monday, Memorial Day), to go back and give it a second chance. That was our second mistake. Going the first time was the lst one. My Husband really wanted the chicken and waffles, we sat at the bar, and he proceeded to order, and they told him they were out of this item selection. Well, we kept seeing chicken being served, so finally I asked the bartender, ""HOW CAN YOU BE OUT OF CHICKEN AND WAFFLES, WHE I SEE YOU SERVING LOTS OF OTHER CHICKEN SELECTIONS""? His response to me was (as he was throwing out a chicken BASKET with fries), ""WE JUST RAN OUT, THAT WAS THE LAST ONE""! WHAT THE HELL DID THAT MEAN?! If an establishment is going to lie to their customers, then how can you trust them to patronize them?! Did they not want to take the time to heat up a waffle iron? Obviously, they had chicken!
They LOST two customers with my husband and I, which was a HUGE mistake considering the amount of people I come in contact with on a daily basis. It's NEVER a good idea to treat your customers like IDIOTS!
I went to the Bulldog NE last weekend with a group after a conference. I have been before multiple times and have found that it’s a great place for food and drinks. They are especially great when you are with an unfamiliar group because they have such an amazing menu and beer/wine list, anyone can find something they will love.
This is what I was thinking when I brought a group of my coworkers to the Bulldog, (I’m the new guy at the office and was trying to impress). When we arrived, I realized that I had been to the Bulldog NE before, but not on a weekend. It was BUSY. I was convinced that my group (of 10) would never get a table. I started to get that pit in my stomach that you get when you screw up in front of people that trusted your decisions. I spoke with the (very friendly) host and he acknowledged that they were (obviously) busy, and that he would do the best he could.
At this point, I still didn’t have high hopes of getting seated and food in any sort of timely manner. My group got drinks at the bar, and chatted. The host checked back with us a number of times which I appreciated, each time joking with us and giving us updates about our table. His outgoing attitude and friendly demeanor really put my coworkers at ease; he even gave us dinner recommendations.
After about a half hour we were seated, by this time we had all had a drink and were excited about the food. We were not disappointed, the server knew what she was doing and obviously knew a lot about the food. Everyone found something on the menu, (I personally LOVE the tartar). Everyone was happy and I became king of the office for a night. Thanks for being awesome Bulldog NE!
I was in a group of four on a not so busy Saturday, the front was 1/3 full and the service was awful. I was with my parents and they may not be NE cool, but they were the ones tipping and obviously not trendy enough for a certain server. The short, young, flippant, brunette man child obviously did not care about our table, only walking around and looking busy. He looked at our stack of menus twice before taking our order, saw our empty drinks several times without filling them (someone else had to do it for him and she was very nice), did not check back to see if everything was ok until we were practically finished and just generally carried himself with an ""I'm better than you"" attitude. I will go back, but if I get that sever again, I will be heading across the street to Whitey's and I suggest you do the same.
I love the Bulldog N.E. I go there at least once a week. I love the food. (Especially the tots!) I love playing shuffle board with my friends for happy hour. I love the atmosphere and love the staff... With one exception. The waitress with shortish dark hair, Don't worry grumpy gal, I promise to never sit in your section again. You can roll your eyes and sigh at some other customers next time. I know I'm not a ""regular"" but, I am a familiar face. At the very least I'd like a forced smile. Please! Your other customers are going to catch on that you hate being nice and leave your section too.
Though this was my first time at the Bulldog NE, my Husband had previously visted this sleek but casual establishment and had raved about the truffle fries and beer selection. Upon entering, I was wonderfully suprised by the clean airy feel of the atmosphere with it's high ceilings and open space. There were plenty of people but it hardly seemed crowded, very comfortable table spacing. The music was jazzy and not too loud, perfect for a nice mellow evening out! Our server, (the curly haired one), was super friendly and attentive! We ordered the Pickle Platter and ColdCut appetizer plates and were absolutely floored by how delicious everything was! I especially enjoyed the chicken liver pate with tart cherries and the pickled eggs. Even the pickled herring, which, I'm usually not a big fan of , was ever so good! We ordered the Chicken and Waffles, as well as, the Itialian Meatloaf for our entree's and were in flavour heaven! The Truffle fries are especially tasty! Fantastic Food! Great Beer Selection! We were able to sample many different exotic beers and found it hard to pick a favorite! This is my new MOST FAVOURITE place to go in the TwinCities! Thank You Bulldog NE for a Wonderfully Memorable, Fantastic Night! I most Definately Will be returning again and again! The fresh flowers in the cozy restroom was a super nice touch!
I have been here twice, once early afternoon, once at dinner time. Both times, my server took 10-15 minutes to greet my table, didn't refill drinks until the meal was over, and had to be flagged down by a busser to get the check. The staff was rude, and at one point pushed my friend without even saying ""sorry."" The food is good, but not worth being treated so poorly.
What a bunch if phoney bologna those other reviews are. I've been a loyal customer of the Bulldog N.E. since they opened. They have really transformed into a great bar. The food is outstanding, the beer selection is practically second to none. I have had service that ranges from informal, no nonsense to super friendly and knowledgeable. I would take the bulldog bashing seriously if there were one single specific detail. but there isn't. Looks to me like sour grapes. So, grapes. Have fun at Whitey's. I'll be over at the bulldog N.E. having the same great food and service I always do.
I have been going to the bulldog ne regularly now for over a year. I have managed to work my way through nearly the entire menu. I have yet to be disappointed with a meal. I love their creative twists on traditional bar staples. However I do have my favorites. The Juicy burgers top my list. My favorite is the Rooster Burger. I find the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable of their extensive beer menu.
I recently went early on a weekend day and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they now have brunch on the weekends. I had my heart set on a burger but decided that I would go for it and try the brunch. I decided on the ropa, which is sweet potato and sweet corn hash topped with brisket, bbq sauce and fried eggs. It was amazing. Tasty tangy and satisfying. The friend I was dining with followed my lead and ordered off the brunch menu as well. She decided on the veggie frittata . She was blown away by it.
I can't say enough nice things about this place. The atmosphere is very casual and comfortable. The service is well above average and the food and beer selection are exceptional.
The Bulldog NE is the best Food/Drink at the best price in town, hands down.
Great selection of beer and good food however the service is the worst I have ever seen all the way from the serving staff to the Management. They do not care about the treatment of their customers.
actually, great food and great beer. its an awesome neighborhood bar to sit and eat and relax or have a great time with friends!
upck you are a dumbas*. go to whitecastle. the green stuff is relish (like in chicago) ""chicago dog"" you are bright. STOP paying for internet!!
In my dozens and dozens of times going to the ""dog"", I've had pretty much the same experience each time: Sit down, wait 5+ minutes (5 when the bar is EMPTY, closer to 10 when it's busy), order beer, wait another 5+ minutes, order food and wait god knows how long. Eat awesome food, eventually flag down waitstaff for more beer and so on. HOWEVER, I would like to note that there are one or two servers there who provide EXCEPTIONAL service (and ought to be rewarded for it!). I love the gourmet and quirky twist on classic Americana dining (hamburgers and hot dogs... seriously!) The burgers are awesome, and so is the veg black bean burger (I get mine ""ninja style""!).
A general rule of thumb in the restaurant industry is that exceptional service can make up for mediocre food while exceptional food can't make up for mediocre service. The 'dog is the only exception I have found to this rule.
