Located in Miami, Tropical Elementary School is operated by Miami Dade County Public Schools. The school serves more than 400 students in prekindergarten through grade five. Founded in 1955, it offers various programs, such as English for speakers of other languages, mathematics, music, art, physical education, reading and Spanish. The elementary school has a media center, cafeteria, and special education and music and art rooms. Its media center has a collection of more than 13,000 print and nonprint materials, closed-circuit television-equipped broadcast studio, networked computers with Internet access and online book catalogs. Additionally, it offers special education programs for mentally handicapped, gifted, and physically and visual impaired individuals. The school also has a therapy department that provides physical, occupational, speech, hearing and nursing respiratory therapies.
