Since 1996, Mesa Market Place Swap Meet has been a landmark, and next to Chicago Cubs Spring Training, is one of Phoenix East Valley's most popular shopping destinations. It hit a homerun on its opening weekend, and hasn't slowed down since! Parking is free, admission is free, and live entertainment every day they're open is free in the Food Court. Good musicians perform in the Food Court in the middle of the market. Shoppers linger there because they can enjoy a beer, a meal, a sandwich, or a smoothie and listen to music at the same time. The market attracts avid shoppers, and shoppers who just want to slow down to enjoy the ambiance. There's plenty to do. There is more to see at the market than anyone can see in one day! A single breezeway covers a mile and a quarter of shopping lanes. 900 merchants stock 1600 shops. The place is enormous. The pace is relaxed, the merchants are friendly, and there are lots of places to sit and people-watch. Mesa Market Place is not a 'Let's visit the market place once a year;' roadside attraction. It's where locals and tourists alike find value on an ongoing basis. Mesa Market Place has become today's shopping mall! Mesa Market Place Swap Meet is busiest during the valley's winter season. Their parking lot is about 40 acres, and it's full all day! In addition to attracting regular shoppers, it's a tourist magnet. Local families bring in visiting relatives. Cubs Spring Training seems to be good for the market. And large groups of tourists arrive on tour buses. Souvenir shopping is a must-do for most out-of-town shoppers. They'll find traditional, unusual, and even one-of-a-kind finds in all price ranges from just a few dollars ranging up to museum-quality pottery and jewelry pieces costing thousands of dollars. Today's Mesa Market Place merchants are independent business people selling today's high quality, fashionable, and hip clothing and accessories, shoes, home decor, backyard furnishings, landscaping and built-in barbeques. Furnishing a kitchen? They've got kitchen furnishings including lifetime cookware, 'As seen on TV' inventions, and great knives. Their shops are relaxed, engaging and personalized. The hunt for the right find is as satisfying as a Treasure Hunt. A day here is well spent. The Food Court is a starting point for many shoppers. Breakfast coupons for $2 or less (for a $4.50 breakfast) are out there and on their website for a Roadrunner Breakfast: Two eggs, toast, hash browns and coffee. Hundreds of shoppers take advantage of the great breakfast, and then launch out to visit as much of the market as they can cover in a day. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Lunch, pizza, deli sandwiches and snacks after that until closing. Smoothies, breakfast burritos and lots of side choices are also available. Hot cheese steak Philly sandwich and beef gyros run about $5 and are favorite lunch staples. You'll also find deli sandwiches, pizza, and salads. The market place is featured regularly on almost all area local talk shows: Your Life A to Z on Channel 3, Better on Channel 5, Arizona Midday on Channel 12, and Sonoran Living on Channel 15.
