If I had the choice again I would not have allowed the service. The respite care resulted in the patient who was suffering from Parkinson's Disease and dementia to arrive home after three full days with bleeding sores on his legs, badly bruised toes and constipation. Companion Hospice staff merely said "take pictures of the injuries". A week later he had flu like symptoms and became very stiff. Continual care began for the Parkinson's. After a few days he was declared stable. I was told to get private help which were to be interviewed the next day. Companion Hospice's director of nursing pulled continual care staff without notifying me at 8:00 pm on July 21, 2014. I tried to cope. I could do nothing to help him. After anxious phone calls continual care was on again at noon the next day. The patient died that evening.
