- Dental ExaminationOral cancer can occur on the lips, inside the mouth, salivary glands, tonsils, on the back of the throat, esophagus, and the tongue and soft tissues of the mouth. We perform a basic oral cancer screening with each check-up, visually and physically examining the oral cavity and connected tissues. If there are any abnormalities discovered, we will do a more advanced oral mucosal visual enhancement exam using the Identafi® system. This technology uses different wavelengths of light to reveal abnormal tissue, such as oral cancer or premalignant dysplasia that may not be apparent to the naked eye during traditional oral exams. It provides the ability to enhance the appearance of suspicious tissue cells of the mouth, throat, tongue and tonsils.

- Oral Cancer ScreeningOral Cancer Screening —we check for signs of oral cancer in your mouth, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums. This is a painless and quick process.
- Teeth CleaningIf you’ve gone an extended amount of time between dental cleanings, we might recommend a more advanced cleaning, known as debridement. Harmful bacteria and hard tartar deposits (calculus) can build up above and below the gum line, and cause early symptoms of gingivitis (inflammation and bleeding of the gums). This build up can lead to periodontal disease if not properly treated, and can be difficult to remove with a toothbrush or even during a normal dental cleaning. Debridement is a first step to remove these deposits and is performed with a high-tech device called an ultrasonic cleaner that uses high-frequency vibration to separate the calculus from the tooth. By removing the deposits and bacteria, this procedure should be enough to bring your gums back to health.

- Dental SealantsTeeth can have narrow grooves or pits that accumulate plaque and are difficult to properly clean by brushing. It’s not because the person doesn’t brush, but because the grooves are too narrow to allow even one bristle into them, which can lead to cavities over time. A sealant fills in these narrow grooves and pits. Applying the sealant is a simple procedure, with Dr. DeCastecker applying a coating that seals the grooves and pits so plaque can be easily brushed off to keep teeth healthy.

- Resin CompositeThe procedure to apply veneers can be direct or indirect. The direct technique usually involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. The indirect technique involves the veneers being created at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment, teeth are prepared, impressions taken and teeth are given a temporary covering. At the second appointment, the dentist removes the temporaries and the custom veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic.
- VeneersVeneers can be used to close gaps or correct small misalignments, and as a cosmetic solution to enhance the brightness of teeth and to straighten smiles, correcting issues like discoloration, fractures or chips. Veneers involve placing a covering over the outside (visible area) of the tooth and are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. Compared to crowns, veneers offer the advantage of removing much less tooth material. We typically recommend veneers for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure. Veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic.

- DenturesThere are different types of dentures, but each shares a common function—replacing teeth that have become loose or been lost due to bone loss. While losing teeth might sound daunting, the good news is that dentures allow you to eat and talk regularly.
- Dental ImplantsAn implant supported denture is used when there are no teeth in the jaw, but the jaw has enough bone in it to support implants. This type of denture is supported by and attached to implants. A regular denture rests on the gums, and is not supported by implants.
- Tooth ExtractionsSaving your natural teeth whenever possible is always our goal. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the best option and it becomes necessary to extract a tooth to protect the health of your other teeth. We are highly experienced at performing simple extractions when a tooth has become so decayed or damaged that it needs to be removed. This procedure involves Dr. DeCastecker applying slight pressure with a specially designed instrument to gently and gradually ease the tooth from the socket. Once removed, Dr. DeCastecker will clean the area and allow it to naturally heal. While the site is healing, she can fit you with a temporary tooth to wear. Once she determines the site is sufficiently healed, she will work with you to present treatment options to permanently replace the extracted tooth.
- Invisalign OrthodonticsNow you can straighten your teeth without braces! Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of clear, virtually invisible custom-molded aligners to gradually straighten teeth. Invisalign treatment involves changing removable aligners approximately every two weeks, moving your teeth into straighter position step by step. Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed when you eat, drink or brush your teeth.
