The service was super, the food was fun, the prices are okay. We sat atthe bar and the bartneder was so entertaining. We will be back.
I admit I was put off by the senior citi-hag who cut in front of me to tell the hostess her party had arrived, but that's an indication of the typical customer. We stopped eating at GCB in the evening because it's not friendly to our two young children. The takeout was packed in those oversized thermoformed plastic containers. They tip over in the car and don't retain heat. My wife's chopped chicken salad was a coagulated glob, as if it was assembled and sauced the night before. One of the four princesses standing up front saw they forgot my boys' drinks, so she got them and set them next to my two bags of food. One fell over as I tried to pick up all four things, so I left the pops. In the parking lot, some guy was lurking by the driver door of my vehicle, a 2010 SUV, nothing special. When I came toward my vehicle, he walked across the parking lot and got into his. Overall, a very disappointing visit. Go to Axel's if you want good food AND good service.
Happy hour was good. Been there twice for meals and both times got the chicken alfredo - don't know where they hid the rest of the chicken, but it sure was hard to find much of it. Lots and lots of noodles though.

A very nice smaller chain restaurant - always predictable, always busy. They brew their own beers, and most of the beers are dependable and agreeable. The food comes in very large portions, and the restaurant can be largely described as mid-priced. You will often go home with leftovers if you order a sandwich or pasta. This Maple Grove location is nearly always busy during prime hours, but the wait is usually bearable during the week - weekends can be another story. The Buffalo Chicken Salad is one of my personal favorites, and all of the sandwiches are pretty solid. The pizza is also dependable, however if you are looking solely for pizza, there are better places nearby that serve pizza.
My husband and I love coming here, when we can get in. We've learned to beat the lunch crowd by going at 11:30 and when going to dinner, get there by 5:00. Otherwise the wait can be pretty long.
I highly recommend the bruschetta salad or a burger and when they made it, their tomato basil soup. They even have a smaller sized burger for those with smaller appetities. My husband is a big fan of their beer made in-house.
It's pretty good. Better than a lot of places in the same price range. Try the Cuban Sandwich because thats excellent, probably the best I've had. The waffle fries are nothing special, sometimes their better than others. The Northern lights Lager is very good and my favorite of their beers. nice place worth a visit. Hard to get into on Friday and Sat. evenings.
The Maple Grove Granite City is a great place to stop for a beer and appetizers as well as dinner. The food is excellent for a chain restaurant and the burgers are the best! The bartenders are very attentive and the management keeps a sharp eye on things. Busy on the weekends but I recommend it highly!
