In the past, we have enjoyed leaving our dog with Howl-A-Dayz Inn when we go out of town. However, I recently picked my dog up after leaving him at Howl-A-Dayz for five days to find him with a red, irritated left eye that he kept squinting shut and attempting to paw at (he did not have this problem when I dropped him off.) The young girl working the front desk said he had been squinting; she only told me when I picked my dog up, and did not bother to call me when the issue first presented itself.

Less than 24 hours later, I was at the animal emergency room, where my dog was treated for an infected ulcer on his left cornea. Though the injury was likely not caused by Howl-A-Dayz, it was certainly prolonged by my dog being around the bacteria of other animals and being allowed to scratch at it. If Howl-A-Dayz would have called us to let us know as soon as they noticed my dog squinting, my dog would have been able to see a vet and been spared substantial discomfort (not to mention that he has lost the use of half his cornea, and we have spent nearly $350 in ER bills.) When we called to speak to Howl-A-Dayz about this incident, the owner hung up on us.

My dog suffered needlessly from the negligence of the Howl-A-Dayz Inn staff who did not alert us when the first noticed a problem. We will certainly not be returning to Howl-A-Dayz, and I strongly encourage you to take your business elsewhere.

Today I brought my 7 month old...

Today I brought my 7 month old german shepherd puppy in for what I was told would be a temperament test. When I arrived, her leash was grabbed out of my hand without anything being said to me. My dog immediately hid under the desk and no effort was made to try and comfort her. She was scared because of this, and probably because of the poor dog that was having it s nails trimmed while being screamed at by an employee to shut up. All while the employee was trying to get the kwik stop because she had cut it s nails too short and they were bleeding. I had assumed when I got there that I would be given a tour, but no one offered me anything of the sort. I was hesitant to leave my girl there, but I figured it was only two hours and she might enjoy her time with all the other dogs. When I got home I hopped on the website so I could keep an eye on her. I watched her the entire two hour temp test. This included her laying on the couch while a man sat next to her staring off into space. This went on for 45 minutes. Then the man got up and left her with no interaction at all. A girl would walk in every ten minutes or so to mop up urine (there is no outside play time, so they are forced to potty in their play area) and pet her for a few seconds and walk away. Not one person tried to get her to play or tried to find out what her temperament was like. It was sad to watch. When I arrived I had to go find a staff member. The sign on counter said to find them in the grooming room, but not one door was labeled as such, so I had to go around knocking on doors. The girl, dressed in quite the questionable attire, went and got my puppy...she dragged her in by the collar and threw her up on the counter (by the edge mind you) and I had to grab her and pull her off (she isn t the smallest dog, maybe 30lbs). She then told me it would be $10.00 for the day. I asked her for what, and she told me it was a registration fee. A what??? Not once had anyone said anything about any fees. I maybe could have rationalized this fee, if they had truly given my dog a test or spent any kind of time with her at all. I was truly appalled and will not be boarding my dog there like I had planned.
