I was TOTALLY disgusted with what I saw at this restaurant!!! While sitting in the back dining room, I witnessed all of the freshly cooked food and pizzas coming out of the of window area of the kitchen, and being placed on the counter for the wait-staff to deliver to the tables. But........on that SAME COUNTER, the busboys were putting all of the DIRTY dishes............RIGHT NEXT TO the food that was just cooked. I saw dirty dishes TOUCHING the fresh pizzas, waiting to be delivered to the tables. There was also a plastic box that the dirty silverware was being thrown into.................while being tossed OVER the freshly made food. I wonder how many people were infected with germs from peoples' dirty dishes touching the freshly made food. I will NEVER go back there again!!!!!

After reading the reviews of the place I tried the pizza and it wasnt really bad. greasy but decent stuff. I decided to try a sub. took it home they only had one kind. It was italian so I figured it would be good. took it home and there was a mountainious pile of sweet coleslaw on it salmi and ham and a thin slice of cheese! It was gross. I ended up taking all the coleslaw off adding marinara sauce since there wasnt any on it. put some pepperoni and a pile of italian cheese stuck it in the oven and it turned out really good. Sad to say I had to create it. Coleslaw? Tacky and it tasted weird. there were 3 people in the bar late saturday night all older men staring me down! Everytime I go in there for a pickup Im in there for 2-3 minutes and come out smelling like a ashtray. I swear they dont have smoking ventilation! yucky tiny place. I would never dine in. I order pizza there when I dont feel like going to comos for the real thing!

Yes people this is a BAR. There may be smoke. If you don't like bars don't go or get the pizza to carry out. Bottom line if you like Pizza this is where you want it from. I love pizza and I've had every pizza in the tri county area. This can't be beat.

Absolutley the best pizza in Metro Detroit. I live in northwest Troy and have for 22 years. We routinely drive down to Mad Heights for the pizza. Forget about the Alibi ( which I pass to get here). Once you eat GL's pizza you'll be hooked.

Ok, I have really had it with the $5 pizza . I am so sick of getting the same BLAH taste from all the fast pizza chains. I decided to try Green Lantern and I am HOOKED! I have never eaten in the restaurant, but I order carry-out whenever we have pizza. I love the thick hand cut pepperoni and the thin cheesy crust. You can not beat this home cooked taste. They do everything right. If you haven't tried it you are missing out. I even added them to my cell phone numbers so I can call when I am in the neighborhood. Order now and you will not be disappointed!!!!

Green Lantern in Madison Heights has excellent pizza... but their second location in Royal Oak is terrible. The pizza quality is not the same at Royal Oak. This has to do with the oven temperature... Madison Heights' oven cooks much hotter therefore delivering a more evenly cooked pizza with the perfect crust. Also the staff at Royal Oak is very inexperienced and unprofessional. I strongly recommend sticking with the original location if you except quality on a consistent basis.

I live about 45 mins from Green Lantern and try to make a trip out there at least once per month just to indulge myself with the AWESOME pizza and cheese bread. The building may be small but I would sit on top of people just to get a piece of that pie!!! It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! My mouth is watery right now thinking about it!!!! If you are a complainer about space and smoke, get carry out! You wont be disappointed!!!

I'm new to the area and had heard great things about the pizza. The pizza probably was the best that I've had in over 3 years up here. That being said, I've yet to have pizza anywhere in the Detroit area that knocked my socks off (including Shield's, Buddy's and PizzaPapolis.) I'm picky about sausage and I like the little crumbly sausage in lieu of the big sausage b_lls that Green Lantern and apparently every other pizza place in the metro area are so fond of. Anyhow...good pizza, nonetheless. I actually think the thing that sets them apart are their Italian subs. They have a some kind of sour slaw on them that is out of site. It is small inside, but if I owned it, I'd much rather have a small place that was busy than too big a place with a lot of empty tables. Plus, I've never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes for a table. Hehe...I was done with my review, but the website said I couldn't use the word ""b_lls."" Too funny.

After reading all of the great reviews, I had to drive a block from my newly purchased home to try this place out. First off, it is small. I actually think we cut in front of people waiting for seating. We just walked in the John R. enterance and sat down. Oops. Seating procedure is a little disorganized.
The tables were also crammed together. I had to sit with my gut wedged against the table for most of the meal. Needless to say, it didn't make eating the food very easy.
It is loud. We were at a small table and trouble hearing one another. There was smoke from neighboring tables. That wasn't fun either.
The prices were good. But the pizza wasn't that great. It was plain pizza. Nothing special to it really. It was midly burnt as well. That didn't help.
We got some cheasy breadsticks and they were pretty good though.
It would be a fun place to go for a business lunch possibly, or to sit at the bar and watch the game or something, but for a night out or for families...it's not recommended.

The individuals complaining about The Green Lantern being ""too smoky"" or ""not kid-friendly"" are running low on common sense.
If you've ever seen the place from the outside, you can tell it's a bar.
If it looks exactly like a bar, who takes their kids inside, and then complains?
People who should take their kids to Red Robin, Chuck E Cheese or any other run-of-the-mill chain ""family"" restaurant and stop giving The Green Lantern bad reviews.
This cozy, friendly, old-fashioned restaurant/bar serves excellent pizza, beer, and fun atmosphere.
Stick to the pizza - it greatly outranks other items on the menu. One of the few little mom & pop places left in the area, The Green Lantern is perfect place to go share a pitcher of beer with good friends!

Yeah the place is small and smokey, but the pizza is excellent. If you dont like smoke than get take out. The pizza is worth every cent. This place is a bar and really not kid friendly. Every Time I go there, there is a lot of people, but there is no real wait. So its a bar atmosphere with great pizza. I would recommend it to anyone.

The Latern definitely makes one of the best pizzas in town. If you are going for a family meal and you have young kids, go early before the smokers get there. It is a bar. It definitely gets packed after 6p but the service is great and the food is fast.
It is not a flashy place nor is it a sports bar with huge TVs. They have four 27 TVs which are usually tuned to the local games and it is enough to track what is happening. It can get relatively loud so if you are soft spoken and want to hold a conversation, pick another place.
Bottom line: great food, great and fast service, go early for less smoke or a quieter atmosphere

I live nearby and have heard how great the Green Lantern pizza is. When we checked it out, the atmosphere was: smoke, smoke, smoke. You have to love eating smoke to eat here because there is no no-smoking section. It is a bar, not a resturant, so people are smoking a lot!!! Also, there was heavy drinking going on in the table right next to us--not a party having a cocktail, one man solitary drinking one straight-up whiskey after the other. Not what I want to expose my kids to. Also, the tables and chairs weren't comfortable. We also thought the TV's were intrusive.
About the pizza. One reviewer ahead of me said he loved his greasy pizza. He described it exactly---greasy. If you love greasy, you'll love this. Personally, with so many pizza places nearby, I'll pass on this one.

We went there because of these recommendations here but what a mistake! Smoky place (no non-smoking), service was terrible, our waitress seemed to be in a hurry, although they weren't busy. And I don't know what kind of mushrooms those Free Press ppl had on their pizza when they thought it's the best pizza, cause to me and my friends it was mediocre, nothing special. Bread that came with salad was toasted stale hotdog bun!

Having grown up in MH, I have been brought up on Green Latern pie. You can search high and low and not find better pizza anywhere. A Friday night ""must"" for my sons and I, after an LHS football game, as well as, throughout the year. Although I've never had their subs(will do and review), I've been told they are also the best. WDIV and the Freep can't be wrong and you won't be either...
