- Dental CareWe have been serving Lynchburg and the surrounding areas for well over 50 years as a veterinary hospital, since 1999 under Dr. Jean & Dr.Rick Krason. We are a full-service, SMALL ANIMAL and EXOTIC ANIMAL veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care to dogs, cats and small mammals as well as reptiles and birds.
- VaccinationFor the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations be up to date. Even though we make every effort to make our patients feel comfortable during visits, they may be a little uneasy about new people, new surroundings and other pets. We recommend that animals be placed on a leash or in pet carriers before entering the waiting room.
- Nutritional CounselingWe will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
- Comprehensive ExaminationToday's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past. Here at The Animal Hospital of Lynchburg, we do a thorough physical exam on your pet before administering anesthetics, to ensure that a fever or other illness won't be a problem. We also adjust the amount and type of anesthetic used depending on the health of your pet. The handout on anesthesia explains this in greater detail.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlOur hospital is equipped to provide full, in-house diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. We have the capability to run Complete Blood Counts (CBC), Full Serum Chemistries (Liver, Kidney, Blood Sugar and Electrolyte levels), Blood Parasite Screening (Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, and Heartworm disease) Parvoviral Enteritis Testing (Parvo), Fecal Parasite Examinations (Intestinal Worms), Full Urinalysis as well as Thyroid levels in- house. This means that you receive the results of the tests in a more timely manner. In addition to in-house testing, we have access to numerous outside laboratories that allow us to run diagnostic panels such as Pancreatic Enzyme Levels to Adrenal Function panels, as well as canine and feline vaccine titers.
- Pain ManagementAnything that causes pain in people can be expected to cause pain in animals. Pets may not show the same symptoms of pain as people do; they usually don't whine or cry, but you can be sure they feel it. Pain medications needed will depend on the surgery performed. Major procedures require more pain relief than things like minor lacerations.
- Vomiting Treatment
- Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
- Thyroid Disease TreatmentWe provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists. We also have the in-house capabilities for measuring your pets blood pressure - very important in cases of heart disease, renal failure and hyperthyroidism.
- Heart Disease TreatmentPreanesthetic blood testing is important in reducing the risk of anesthesia. Every pet needs blood testing before surgery to ensure that the liver and kidneys can handle the anesthetic. Even apparently healthy animals can have serious organ system problems that cannot be detected without blood testing. If there is a problem, it is much better to find it before it causes anesthetic or surgical complications. Animals that have minor dysfunction will handle the anesthetic better if they receive IV fluids during surgery. If serious problems are detected, surgery can be postponed until the problem is corrected. Part of our preanesthetic testing includes an EKG, which will alert us to any abnormalities in your pets heart rate or rhythm before we even begin anesthesia.
- Wound and Fracture Care
- Dental SurgeryOur dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery. In addition, Dr. Jean is one of the few veterinarians in the area who have the capability to perform restorations and root canals when appropriate.
- Veterinary SurgeryI enjoy surgery, and have had years of experience with both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. I have a special interest in Oncology (cancer medicine) as well, which I find challenging, but rewarding when I can provide more time for the pet and the owner to be together.
- Laboratory ServicesOccasionally we find a case that is in need of diagnostic services that we are unable to offer. In that situation, we will always present to you the alternatives for referral. We work closely with several specialty practices that offer a wide array of specialty veterinarians and the ability to perform procedures such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CAT Scan (Computed Tomography)
- X-Ray
- Dental RadiologyWhen at work I particularly enjoy working up internal medicine cases. I have been honing my skills in ultrasonography and have been finding it to be a great diagnostic tool. I also love dentistry, and am one of the few veterinarians in the surrounding area that has a dental radiography unit and the ability to do endodontic therapy.
- MicrochippingWe offer microchip identification through HomeAgain. The latest innovations allow you to have 24-7 access to your pet's recovery program throughout the USA! This is a nonpainful, yet permanent form of identification.
