Operational for more than 20 years, Cable Television Laboratories is a nonprofit research and development association. Founded by the members of the cable television industry, CableLabs offers various research services for cable telecommunications technologies. The company s services include identification of broadband technologies, authorization of specifications, certification of products, and dissemination of information. It also offers interoperability among different cable systems, availability of cable modems and advanced services, and other value-added services. CableLabs is funded by monthly member subscription fees. Located in Louisville, Colo., its members include Access Communications, Adelphia Communications Corporation, Armstrong Utilities, Atlantic Broadband, Aurora Cable TV, and BendBroadband. Additionally, the company provides various projects, such as DOCSIS, Go2BroadbandSM, CableHome, VOD Metadata, PacketCable and OpenCable.
