This place simply rocks. It is packed at nights, specially on weekends. Perfect for UCLA students, since it is walking distance from the school. And the food, simply amazing. They have a wide variety of sushi, rolls, and sashimi. They taste like heaven. I have tried almost everything on their menu and loved every single one of them. The chefs and the staff are so much fun and so friendly. They also started this new VIP card idea, that based on your purchase amount, they put a percentage on your VIP pass as a credit and after it reaches $10, they give you $10 off your next order.
TOMADACHI is fantastic. Fun for group dinners, or even a light dinner before a movie.
Try it. You will love it.
The only thing that makes this place live is their servers, and some sushi men, ambience wise its dead, they have a fish tank without fish. they have cokroaches too, food is just mediocre, nothing interesting than seeing a roches crawling in the sushi bar, im sure this place is own not by a real japanese because it compromises the quality, it could be either chinese or korean for sure. if you want to be drunk by sake bomb, this is the best place because they have this deal of 9.99 $ for beer sake and rolls, at least you know the beer is safe and no roches in it, by the time your drunk eat the sushi, you wont think of the roches anymore. heheheh, this place is a sake bomb specialist. ami is far more better.
we saw a cokroach! i'm sure they're at many other restaurants but this is the first i've SEEN that i can remember. seriously. gross.
i've given this place more than a couple tries, going to UCLA we don't really have many choices if you like sushi. i mean, it's definitely better than ALCU sushi, where the same sushi goes around on the conveyor belt for hours and is no longer fresh when you pick it up, but the fact is the sushi's not that good. unless you want to pay a lot of money for the top dollar stuff, which is hard to do as the ""starving student."" you could get this same tasty, unique, quality sushi at a different place for MUCH cheaper.
the servers are friendly and nice.
I started coming into this restaurant my freshman year of college, and as a senior now, it is still the best Japanese restaurant in Westwood, in my opinion. My friends and I come in here weekly for the great sake bomb deal and the moderately priced sushi. We come in a larger group of around 8 people, and the servers have always been friendly, even when we stay later and keep them there past closing. The price is as good as you can get for good sushi, and the atmosphere is light and friendly. Overall, it's a wonderful restaurant and I'd highly recommend it to any avid sushi-goer.
I am a big fan of sushi, but visiting Tomodachi gives me a new but good experience of how a greater variety of sushi as well as rolls could be offered. I love spicy tuna with crispy rice, bruins rolls and albacore sushi, they are all superb. The place is not a luxurious thing, but if you are looking for the real sushi...this is it!! Sushi men are nice and service are great!!!!
There are too many Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles. . I've tried literally every single Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles area for last 25 years. I could safely say that it's the best Japanese restaurant in LA for many reasons.
The quality of the food here is amazing. This restaurant actually serves daily-fresh seafood as part of the menu.
The prices were great too, considering all the high-quality fish I ordered. It?s reasonable and definitely worth what I ate.
But most of all, service was the best.
Highly recommended.
I am a senior at UCLA, and I have been going to Tomodachi Sushi since I was a freshman. I really think that this restaurant has just gotten better as the years passed. The rolls are so creative--the snow corn roll is my favorite. It literally melts in my mouth: definitely one of the best rolls on the menu. Also the Samurai Wrap is a nice appetizer to have that is healthy but still sushi-like.
They also have really great sake bomb specials. My friends and I go once a week to sake bomb here and we always have a great time.
The service has definitely improved too within the past few years. They are very conversational and down to earth, especially since a few of them are students I think.
I would definitely recommend Tomodachi if anyone is going to Westwood and going to have sushi. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the servers are always friendly and the sushi is always fresh. I'm actually really sad that I'm graduating because I'm going to have to find a new sushi place to go to now.
I am a sushi FANATIC, and have been to a ton of sushi restaurants around California. So listen up. If you feel like great sushi -- and I mean MOUTH-WATERING rolls -- then go to Tomodachi Sushi in Westwood near UCLA. It has the greatest selection of sushi rolls, and the servings are HUGE. Try the unagi tempura spicy tuna roll. OMG. Scrumptious I tell ya.
I highly recommend going in during lunch time because they have the greatest deals. You definitely get your money's worth. They have all sorts of lunc combinations, suchi combos, etc.
During dinner the sushi chefs are great fun, buy a bottle of beer and pour them a glass, they'll absolutely love it. Speaking of alcohol, sake bomb specials are only 8 bucks. That's a HUGE beer with hot sake for only 8 dollars. I go in all the time with a bunch of friends and we have a great time pounding on the tables.
Make sure to make reservations because it tends to get busy during dinner. In terms of service, the waitresses are really nice and sincere. One time my friends and I were asked to move tables and the manager gave us edamame for free! They're super friendly and I definitely recommend that you guys check this place out.
First off, I have never felt the need to rate any restaurants good or bad, until I visited Tomodachi in Westwood. I was left with such a bitter taste in my mouth that I felt I absolutely had to write a review on how terrifically horrible the service was at this restaurant. They sat us at 10:30p (they close at 11a) and by 10:45, they were already trying to rush us out of the restaurtant. It was all ""hurry hurry"" atmosphere, after our food was dropped off no one ever stop by to refill water or ask if the food was okay. In addition, they even took away our soy sauce to refill for the night, before we had even used it. Also, they insisted we pay the bill because they had to close the register and we had JUST recieved our food about 5 minutes ago. Then 5 minutes later, the waitress comes back and insist again can you please pay now.! So we pay, and try to enjoy our meal, but by 11:00p they were rushing all the customers and even, putting up all the chairs, it's extremely loud because of all the cleaning and banging of plates and pots. If they seat customers at 10:30p, they have to reasonably give an hour for their patrons to finish thier meal. This rush rush attitude would be more acceptable at a cheap burger joint, but not a expensive japanese eatery.
The entire experience felt very rushed and that they coudln't wait to get our money and to kick us out. We barely had a chance to finish eating, when all the chairs in the whole place were already up. We left at 11:15p.. 15 minutes after closing time.
I would most definetly not recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless they enjoy scarfing down $20 entrees with the waitress breathing down your neck to write out her tip.
I was surprised to find such high quality sushi when I stumbled upon this restaurant. It looks just like any of the other thousands of tiny sushi restaurants from the outside... however you will find the fish to be extremely fresh, the prices quite reasonable & the variety of rolls quite impressive.
I love this restaurant! Best Baked Lobster Roll anywhere! The staff is friendly & remember you & the service is fast for people on an hour lunch. Very clean. Highly recommend!
I love the sushi here...the baked salmon roll and the spicy tuna tempura are the best ones!! I often order sushi to go (it takes 15 mins average which is good) with my boyfriend and then we sneak it into the movie theatre and enjoy the feast!!! Try it!!!
Tomadachi looks a bit shoddy from the outside due to its small size and location (next to fast food stands). However, the sushi here is absolutely fantastic. I went with a group of friends and we were immediately seated even though there were 10 of us. The servers were very attentive. We tried the Spider Roll, Bruin Roll, New York Steak Roll, California Roll, and a few others. And everything was up to par! The prices are not bad either - usually $10 per roll. I would recommend coming here often.
My fave sushi place in LA - the most amazing california rolls, I can never get enough. The eel and cucumber roll is good too. My friend lives off of the lobster and shrimp roll.
I go there for lunch all the time. Recently I had the Lady's Special and that was really good. There rolls are pretty inventive some times and my friend loved the Bruins roll. The sashimi/sushi is not the freshest, but still decent. The sauces are that they drizzle on is pretty delectable and the prices are normal. Service is not bad. It is not a big place but they do have a sushi bar too. I'd definitely go there and give it a try because they might have new rolls that are pretty cool and good. I go there for lunch and I just eat the salmon teriyaki and the Lady's Special roll only cost me about 15 dollars. So go there and give it a try, it is underrated it should be higher than an 8.6.
The chef comes up with some very creative rolls and they are all well prepared. The salads are great too. The place is clean and pleasant and the service is friendly. I only wish they didn't assume that every dish ordered was being shared. They bring them out one at a time. Rather tedious.
Yes, its a college town, so sushi in Westwood isn't as grown up as Beverly Hills. And yes, there are silly girls trying to do sake bombs and making a mess. But the sushi is good! Some new and different rolls and very fresh fish served quickly.
