- GlaucomaLatisse is the first and only FDA-approved treatment that can make short, sparse, and light lashes longer, thicker, and darker. The eyelash enhancer was actually discovered as a side effect of LUMIGAN®, a drug used to treat glaucoma. Glaucoma patients who used LUMIGAN® eye drops discovered that their eyelashes grew thicker and longer in length over time. Latisse® was developed using 1/20th of the LUMIGAN® formulation and a brush-based delivery device, similar to an eyeliner brush, for topical eyelash application. The FDA approved the drug for eyelash growth in 2008.
- Pregnancy
- Anxiety
- ThyroidIf you have an underlying disorder such as thyroid disease or lupus. These conditions will continue to cause hair loss over time.
- UltrasoundUltherapy uses focused ultrasound energy to deliver heat to deep tissue without disturbing the skin’s surface. This process triggers the growth of new collagen in the skin which helps lift and tighten the skin over time. Results gradually become noticeable over a two to three month period with continued improvements seen up to six months after the procedure.
- Ear SurgeryEar surgery reshapes the ears to enhance their appearance and symmetry. Otoplasty may be used to tuck back ears that protrude, reduce the size of the ear or to develop a balance between both ears.
- Reconstructive Surgery
- BotoxXeomin® is a neurotoxin injection similar to Botox® and Dysport®, and is used to soften wrinkles and folds in the face. Like Botox®, Xeomin® is used to relax frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet and other lines and creases caused by repetitive facial movements. The primary difference between Xeomin® and the other neurotoxin injections is its unique formulation (explained below), designed to maintain consistent effectiveness over long-term use.
- Brow LiftPatients should be overall healthy and have realistic goals for their brow lift procedure. If you’re unhappy with the look of your forehead region, a brow lift is probably for you.
- Eyelid SurgeryGood candidates for eyelid surgery should be in good health overall. It is important that you have realistic goals for your facial surgery. Those with ophthalmologic or circulatory issues may not be able to undergo this procedure.
- LiposuctionExcess fat, which sits on your neck, jawline, cheeks or chin, can be difficult to rid through diet and exercise, creating a source of frustration for many who have worked so hard to improve their physique. Fortunately, these stubborn facial fat deposits can be removed through facial liposuction.
- RhinoplastyWhen problems occur following a rhinoplasty, a patient may benefit from having the procedure performed a second time, which is referred to as a revision rhinoplasty.
- Plastic SurgerySpider veins may look like thin, separated lines or branches sprouting from an individual tree. It is not uncommon to see these veins in a star-like pattern, where smaller veins radiate from a center point. Spider veins mostly appear on the calves, thighs, and buttocks. However, the purple, blue or red lines can appear on other parts of the body. It is believed that spider veins are the result of increased pressure on the veins. Laser therapy is the most effective treatment for this condition. Residents of San Jose, Palo Alto and the surrounding communities of California turn to board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Harry Mittelman, MD, at Mittelman Plastic Surgery in Los Altos for spider vein treatment.
- Face LiftWe all age, yet don’t like to see the signs of aging. Until now, a classic face lift was the only effective treatment for skin laxity. Yet, we want to maintain a firm, fresh, look, today’s active lifestyle leaves little time for post-operative recuperation periods, not to mention the side effects of prohibitive costs of a classic face lift. Nobody wants to wait until sagging is so serious that it demands a major surgical procedure. Now there are a simple alternatives.
- Neck LiftTo prepare for a neck lift, Dr. Mittelman will thoroughly explain what you can expect from the procedure during your consultation. During that time, he will carefully evaluate your unique needs and make recommendations that will ensure an optimal outcome.
- BlepharoplastyIf you are not affected by excess eyelid skin, you may still have excess eyelid fat which is negatively affecting your appearance. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty may be a better choice for you – excess fat is removed via an incision within the lower eyelid.
- Nose SurgeryNose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is quite common and addresses the size and shape of the nose. Size can be increased or decreased, and other traits that make a patient self-conscious can be removed, such as reducing the tip of the nose or its bridge, minimizing nostril size and altering the angle relation between the upper lip and the nose. The goal is to balance the nose with the patient’s facial features.
- OtoplastyOtoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the ears in order to tuck them back, reduce their size or create a symmetrical look between the two ears. Commonly, patients are four to 14 years old, though otoplasty can be performed at most any age to reshape the ears.
- Lip AugmentationThe skin of your lips loses collagen with age, as does the skin across the rest of your body. Lost collagen can make the mouth appear thin and not as full as it once looked; these negative results are often seen on a larger scale in smokers and those who have been exposed to a great deal of sun. Lip augmentation can plump the lips, giving your mouth a fuller, more luscious and youthful look.
- Laser ResurfacingWarts bothering you? Board-certified facial plastic surgeon Harry Mittelman, MD, offers laser resurfacing treatment for warts and other conditions of the skin. Dr. Mittelman serves those who live in Palo Alto, San Jose, and the surrounding communities. His office is conveniently located in Los Altos.
- Cosmetic SurgeryIt is possible to remove freckles with laser cosmetic surgery using a pulse-dye laser, or IPL®. During this procedure, the pigment in freckles will absorb the laser’s light. The light will then heat the pigment in the freckles until the pigment breaks into tiny particles. Your skin’s natural exfoliation process will then remove what is left of the darkened pigment. This treatment is very effective and is done without harming the surrounding skin. Even though a pulse-dye laser is often effective at removing freckles, it may take several treatments to completely remove them.
- Facial ImplantsYour face should always look its best because it is the first thing that everyone sees. Mittelman Plastic Surgery helped pioneer facial cosmetic surgery and offers many different choices ranging from rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facial implants, and more!
- Chin AugmentationMentoplasty, or chin augmentation, is a procedure which corrects a chin which has receded and gives the jaw line a new shape. Chin implants are inserted during the procedure to enhance the look of the jaw and to create a balanced facial appearance. Dr. Mittelman is a pioneer of facial implant surgery. The Mittelman Extended Chin Implants are the most popular implants of that type in the United States and are used worldwide.
- Forehead LiftIn some cases, an endoscopic forehead lift may be performed. This procedure requires minor incisions around the hairline. An endoscopic camera is inserted, allowing Dr. Mittelman to see soft tissue and muscle, as well as make adjustments to these tissues.
- Skin CancerUnfortunately, those who often develop freckles when they spend time in the sun are prone to sunburn and skin cancer. If you develop freckles easily, it is important that you use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to protect your skin.

- EczemaTrauma to the skin from acne, rashes such as psoriasis and eczema, and thermal or chemical damage can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which can lead to the formation of brown spots. For some people, the discoloration will fade over time, but for others, it can remain and even darken long after the damage to the skin heals.
- LesionsAge spots are not cancerous, but they can be similar in appearance to some cancerous skin growths. Therefore, it’s important that you report the appearance of multiple pigmented skin lesions to Dr. Mittelman for examination.
- Chemical PeelsWe recommend you hold off on Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC treatments if you are taking medications that thin the blood, such as aspirin. Following a dermal filler procedure, you must also avoid direct sunlight, extreme heat, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. The skin near the Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC injection site may feel sensitive for several days following the procedure, and you are advised to avoid additional treatments such as chemical peels or laser procedures for several weeks.

- Skin CareIn spite of skin care regimens that may effectively slow down the signs of aging, most people will eventually see wrinkles, creases, and sagging skin appear at some point in their lives. Injectable fillers, such as Juvederm®, Sculptra® and Radiesse®, may be used to rejuvenate your appearance easily and inexpensively, without surgery.
- MicrodermabrasionLaser resurfacing is the best approach to rejuvenating aging skin because gentler treatments, such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels, don’t deliver the consistent and dramatic results that lasers provide. Anyone who experiences unwanted changes in their skin due to environmental factors such as sun or wind damage and dryness is also a good candidate for laser resurfacing. These changes may appear as sunspots or hyperpigmented age spots, broken veins, and mild, moderate or mature wrinkles. While wrinkles can form anywhere on the face, environmental factors often cause wrinkles around the mouth. Although wrinkles around the mouth, especially the upper lip, are often referred to as “smoker’s lines”, non-smokers can also suffer from this skin imperfection.
- PsoriasisA number of medical conditions can lead to trauma of the skin itself, a type of hyperpigmentation called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Some illnesses which have the potential to cause this condition include psoriasis, burns, medications applied to the skin and acne. Generally, the body will be able to heal from a case of PIH as new, healthier skin is produced but some individuals can develop a case of PIH, which is permanent.
