A warm, residential home for 3 individuals needing care

General Info
About Us — Why Koy Butler Started The House of Three In the early 1990’s after I had graduated college my maternal grandmother (Mammaw) fell and broke her hip. I had just sold a business and was evaluating what line of work I should pursue. As I had a little extra time on my hands for a few months I helped take care of my Mammaw. I helped her with her medication, bed mobility, transfers even toileting. I so enjoyed being able to care for her as she recuperated at her apartment attached to my parents’ home. One day Mammaw looked at me and said “Son, you put me at ease when you care for me and can move me without making me hurt. You need to go back to school and become a nurse. Mammaw became my inspiration to pursue a career in Senior Healthcare! Not long after Mammaw was back on her feet, I enrolled in a Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) program. I started working in a nursing home as a Caregiver in hopes of learning more about caring for the elderly. After a few months I challenged the Nursing Home Administrator’s exam and received a position as Assistant Administrator. A year after that I was married and offered the Administrator position at a new nursing home in Lonoke, Arkansas. After twenty plus years of working with the elderly as a Nursing Home Administrator, Regional Director of Operations for a group of nursing homes, and helping Assisted Living Facilities, I decided seniors in Arkansas need some other living/care choices beside institutions, or living at home without companionship or adequate caregivers. My experience on the administrative side of the Nursing Home Industry seemed to allow me less time to spend with the Seniors I served and more time with computers and paperwork. Regulations appeared to prevent Seniors and their families from making the health care/lifestyle choices they wanted to make. As I was able to talk to Seniors they echoed the same feelings. Families were concerned because the frontline Caregivers were always busy taking care of someone else and unable to meet their parent’s needs. Families whose parents suffered from dementia stated, “The building is too loud; or, there is too much commotion, and they become agitated”. The families yearned for more personal care and privacy for their loved ones. As I became older, friends and family called me to take care of their parents, so I decided to open the House of Three. I had toyed with the idea for several years and felt like many seniors would really appreciate this option. When taking care of only three Seniors in a home, it’s easier to communicate the needs of each individual to staff. I now feel confident assuring my friends and relatives that we can take great care of their loved one. The House of Three is an excellent option for Seniors who choose not to live in an institutional setting and would benefit from around-the-clock care. The Residents have the luxury of seasoned Caregivers, who are on the premises twenty-four hours a day, at a ratio of no less than one Caregiver to three Residents. Given the Staff-to-Resident ratio, we have the opportunity to know each Resident on a very personal level and anticipate their needs and preferences. Residents are able to receive care in the manner which they have become accustomed at their own home without the costs and headaches associated with maintaining a house and/or securing in-home caregivers. The House of Three can serve seniors who are living in their own homes, in assisted living facilities, or even those currently in nursing homes. Seniors battling dementia or requiring hospice care are welcome, as well. My wife and family are very supportive, and like me they want to give Seniors more personal options than they’ve had in the past.
