General Info
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years treating children, adolescents and adults in California. I recently moved to Lexington, Massachusetts to be closer to my family. Watching children grow and being there to help girls become healthy, confident women is my favorite thing. Supporting women through all the stages of life is a rich environment for me. Just when we think we’ve got things figured out, things change in challenging new ways. I am an artist as well as a therapist and often use creativity as a way of drawing out the authentic truth in children as well as adults. I have an art studio at my office site and no artistic talent is necessary to use art as a means for exploration. For those not interested in creative exploration, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and Gestalt as was well as humanistic/existential techniques as well. My art augments my interest in the female experience across cultures. I believe we are all in life together, appreciating the finer moments and sometimes struggling with the challenges. Being authentic to me means learning as much as you can about who you are and what makes you think the thoughts and do the things you do. From there the path lies before us to create a future that resonates with what is most meaningful to us. As a woman, once a girl, I am keenly aware of the pressures society places on females of any age. I believe it is an important part of our learning process to at least be aware of these outside influences as this can be very insidious. Separating out what comes in from the environment from our own beliefs about ourselves is a beginning step to raising self-esteem and living authentically. I believe living authentically, although not always easy, is the only way to live an honest life. In the end, if we don’t, life can feel like a terrible struggle. If we are successful, life may still not be easy, but we can say we approached it from a place of truth.
