We own a Koyker Legend 740 loader. The loader has been a nightmare. We have owned the loader approximately 7 years. We only had the loader for a few months when the bucket cylinders bent. We went to our dealer and they lined us up with Koyker and they took care of the problem by replacing the rams. At this time they still used the smaller rams. Within a few more months we bent the bucket cylinders again. This time we convinced them to put bigger rams in the cylinders which we then paid for this time, which they have since began putting in all of them I believe. A couple years went by and then we bent one of the lift cylinders when we were dumping a bale in a bale feeder. Seemed ridiculous to have this happen, but went and bought a cylinder, within two more weeks we bent the other lift cylinder and had to replace it. Two or three more years went by and now we were stacking cornstalk bales this fall when one of the upright masts that cradle in the loader mounts had the welds break loose and let the loader tip out and then broke the ends off both lift cylinders. When taking a closer look at the welds they had been broke right along the welds for quite some time as they had rust in the cracks. We didn't know what to do so we called Koyker and they told us we had to go through our dealer. We realize that the loader is out of any warranty, but I would compare these problems to driving your 6 or 7 year old pickup down the road and having the door fall off. Would you be upset with the manufacturer? They have come back to us with a 15% discount against list for the parts. The masts themselves would cost around $1,500 with the big discount and we would still have to either fix the lift cylinders or buy two more of them. We even tried one more shot at talking to Koyker to see if they could sell us the masts for maybe $700 or $800 dollars, to try to avoid taking them to a machine shop to be fixed. They said that all they could do is what our dealer had told us. We had a JD 740 loader for 25 years prior to our Legend and never had any issues except maybe a hose. If you are considering buying a Legend 740 please be warned that it is absolutely not a John Deere 740. I am very disappointed in our experience and want to prevent anyone else from having to deal with Koyker's poorly made products. Luckily we have a John Deere loader on another tractor that is reliable while we have been dealing with this since November.
