That designation —FAAO- means they are recognized by their colleagues as knowledgeable and experienced practitioners who have met the highest standards of professional competence. Doctors of optometry are granted the right to use the FAAO designation only if they have achieved excellence in the practice of optometry as evidenced by fulfillment of the rigorous qualifications set by the American Academy of Optometry. Each candidate for Fellowship must maintain the highest professional standards. Each clinical practice candidate submits written case presentations and is examined by a panel of leading doctors of optometry, who review the presentations and the candidate’s professional credentials.
