The Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA), the Area Agency on Aging for Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties, was founded in 1974 as a Consortium of the three counties and the cities of Lansing and East Lansing. TCOA's mission is to promote and preserve the independence and dignity of the aging population. TCOA helps older adults (primarily age 60 and over) and their families and caregivers access programs and benefits, improve their health, live independently, and remain active in their communities. TCOA embraces a Person-Centered Philosophy that focuses on how a person wants to live their life and honoring their preferences.

TCOA connects people who need help with resources, services and information, including: • Counseling on subjects such as housing, community resources, and long term care options • Support for Caregiver. • Case Coordination/Care Management for those who can benefit from limited support • Crisis Services for the Elderly in response to non-medical emergencies such as utility shut off notices and prescription drug issues • Housing Assistance helps individuals 60 and over and persons with disabilities transitioning to the community to find suitable housing • Project Choices/MI Choice, which offers an alternative to nursing home care by providing services in the home or the setting of their choice • Information and Assistance staff provide information on topics related to older adults and persons with disabilities, including Social Security, health insurance, in-home services and housing information • Evidence-based health and wellness programs such as Matter of Balance Falls Prevention, Diabetes PATH, Chronic Pain PATH, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Creating Confident Caregivers and Powerful Tools for Caregivers • AARP Tax Counseling for the Elderly, offering tax preparation assistance geared towards but not limited to individuals 60 and over with low to middle income. • Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program’s trained volunteer counselors help individuals understand Medicare and Medicaid. • Meals on Wheels provides a nutritious, well-balanced meal delivered by volunteers. • Senior Dining sites provide hot, nutritious meals as well as social and educational activities at many sites throughout the Tri-County area.

The Central office of TCOA is located in South Lansing on the north end of the Ingham County Human Services Complex (Building 1.) The Nutrition program maintains branch Meals on Wheels Offices in St Johns, Mason, and Charlotte.
