- Black-eyed Pea was founded by the Dallas-based restaurateur, Gene Street, in 1975. The restaurant s tag line is "Home Style Cooking at its Best". It specializes in chicken-fried steaks, meatloaf and slow-cooked pot roasts. Black-eyed Pea serves entrees with two of its prepared vegetables, such as baked squash casserole, mashed potatoes and black-eyed peas, as well as hot yeasty wheat rolls.
