1I would like to share my experience in trying to get my mother transferred to a stroke center. On May 3rd, last week, my mother was brought to KVHD by rescue ambulance after my brother called "911" when he noted that her speech became slurred and she "didn't seem right" and was very weak. Upon speaking with my mom on the phone I immediately became concerned that she had a stroke or one was impending. Her speech was slurred and she seemed slow to process. I shared my concerns with the Emergency Dept physician, Dr. Chamez (sp?) on the phone who proceeded to talk right over me as I was trying to share with him her health history.He informed me that "she was not exhibiting any clinical signs of a stroke and that the CT scan was negative."He went on to tell me that "it's just hypertension" and that he planned to discharge her home.Long story short, turned out the Drs were wrong, my mom suffered an ischemic stroke and now has paralysis.Terrible negligent care by ER doc and Dr. Gross.
