General Info
Albert Y. Leung, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist who specializes in pain medicine. As a pain management specialist, he evaluates and treats all forms of acute and chronic pain conditions. Dr. Leung has over 20 years' experience caring for people with chronic pain, and offers a range of interventional and minimally invasive procedures, as well as medication management. Dr. Leung's latest research focuses on the mechanisms and effectiveness of non-invasive brain and peripheral stimulation for nerve function restoration and headache/pain relief. His research lab also studies aberrant neuronal function related to injury and pain, and its responses to pain treatments. Dr. Leung's research has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense, and the Veteran Affairs Office of Research and Development. He is a frequent reviewer for various funding agencies, and an editor and a reviewer for numerous peer-review journals. His work has been published extensively in peer review journals. Dr. Leung served as director of UC San Diego Healths Cancer Palliative Care program and the VA San Diego Healthcare System Pain Service. He is a faculty member for the UC San Diegos Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE) Program.He completed a pain medicine clinical and research fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, a functional neuroimaging fellowship at the MGH/HST Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, and a transcranial magnetic stimulation fellowship at Harvard School of Medicine. Dr. Leung earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
