      The Tennessee Valley Authority, founded in 1933, is a federal corporation and the nation s largest public power company. The company s areas of operations include flood control, electric power production and distribution, and promote agricultural, industrial and economic development. It manages the Tennessee River system to minimize flood risk, produce power, maintain navigation, provide recreational opportunities, and protect water quality. The company also operates fossil-fuel, nuclear, and hydropower plants, and produces energy from renewable sources. The company provides power to more than 150 municipal and cooperative power distributors, and distributes electricity to over 8.5 million customers throughout the United States, including Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. The Tennessee Valley Authority is headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn.
