- Medical Weight LossAbdominoplasty, also known as a "tummy tuck", is a procedure that can help firm and tighten your abdomen to give a flatter, smoother appearance. Many women experience changes in their abdomen as they age. With weight changes and childbearing, many women develop a lower abdominal "pooch" that no amount of weight loss or exercise will fix. In addition, our abdominal muscles or "6-pack" spread so they are no longer aligned causing laxity or looseness of the lower abdomen. An abdominoplasty may help to address these problems. An abdominoplasty or tummy tucks works by removing the excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen from the belly button to the pubic bone. This may also remove those bothersome stretch marks. The upper abdomen then gets pulled downward flattening the entire abdomen. In addition, a series of stitches is placed on the inside from the ribs to the pubis which tightens the muscles bringing them into normal alignment much like an internal corset. Although much of the surgery is done under the surface, the only incisions seen are around the belly button and a separate incision low in the pubic hairline from hip to hip. This incision is hidden by underwear or a bikini.
- ElectrocardiogramThe duration of a phenol-peel procedure varies with the extent of the peel. A full-face peel may take up to two hours to perform. The phenol peel does not require anesthesia, but the patient usually receives sedation for greater comfort. He or she will probably also undergo precautionary cardiac (EKG) monitoring during the procedure. Although an outpatient facility is the usual setting for a phenol peel, selected patients may require a one or two day inpatient stay. A single treatment with phenol usually achieves the desired results.
- MammographyMammography compresses the breasts and can sometimes cause a slight discomfort for a very brief time. It may be more comfortable for you to have a mammogram a week after your menstrual cycle when your breasts are less tender.
- ChemotherapyBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. One in eight women is expected to develop breast cancer within their lifetime. Many women undergo mastectomy or lumpectomy and radiation to treat this disease. Reconstruction of the breast is often needed to help reconstruct one or both breasts in order to achieve better symmetry. This may be done at the time of mastectomy (immediate reconstruction) or sometime later (delayed reconstruction). Sometimes adjunctive therapy like chemotherapy or radiation may delay your reconstruction. We want to make sure to treat the cancer first and then do the reconstruction so as not to delay the cancer treatment. Radiation may also change the plan of reconstruction as radiation changes the ability of the skin to stretch or sometimes changes the size or shape of the breast. By talking with the doctors at Parkway Plastic Surgery, we will decide together which reconstruction is best for you. Even if it is 10 years after your initial diagnosis, you can still undergo breast reconstruction or improve the original reconstruction as your body and needs change with time. Health insurance now covers not only reconstruction on your affected breast, but also reconstruction of the other breast in order to achieve better symmetry. There is no time limit for breast reconstruction.
- BotoxCosmetic injections are typically administered in the upper third of the face as a temporary treatment for forehead wrinkles, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow's feet around the eyes. Once the Botox solution takes effect, your face will appear more youthful and your skin will be free of fine lines for three to four months following the procedure.
- Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery usually involves the removal and sometimes the redistribution of fat pockets, excess skin and muscle tissue from the upper and lower eyelids. Expression muscles can be strengthened to erase the wrinkles and tone can be added to provide a more youthful appearance.
- LiposuctionLiposuction works by making a series of small incisions less than an inch in size in the area that needs to be addressed. We then use a small cannula to remove the fat from that area. After the procedure, you will be placed in a garmet that compresses the area where the liposuction was performed. There is usually drainage from those small incisions during the first few days. Jacksonville patients can expect to be fairly swollen and bruised for about 2 weeks. Ice works well to help control the swelling and decrease the pain. Wearing the garmet will also help with this. You will need to wear the garmet for approximately 6 weeks after the liposuction procedure, so keep this in mind during the summer or hotter months of the year Liposuction does not provide immediate gratification. The swelling goes down over the month after your procedure, but you may not see your final result for up to 6 months later. Contact us for more information about liposuction.
- Breast AugmentationWhether you are considering breast enlargement surgery to obtain a look that aesthetically fulfills your ideal shape or have breasts that were left less firm due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging or fluctuations in weight, our Jacksonville doctors can explain your options to restore a more natural shape to your appearance. Either way, breast augmentation surgery can dramatically improve your body's contour and give you a renewed sense of femininity.
- Breast ReductionBreast reduction may be covered by your health insurance. Coverage is determined by each individual company and is usually based on a combination of breast size, estimated amount of tissue to be removed and body mass index. We will submit to your insurance company for approval if appropriate. Breast Reduction is done in the operating room under general anesthesia. It takes approximately 2-3 hours and you can go home the same day. We do require you to have someone with you the first night (family member or friend). The surgery generally requires 1-2 weeks for recovery (off work). You will be limited to lifting less than 10 pounds for 6 weeks after your surgery. Post-operative pain is moderate and well controlled with pain pills. For your comfort, we also offer a pain pump. This is a device with two tiny catheters (soft, flexible tubes) that are inserted into the breasts. Local numbing medicine is slowly dripped into the site over the first three days. The pain pump is painless and easy to manage. You may remove your dressing and shower the day after your surgery. Please purchase a sports style bra that opens in the front before your surgery. You may wear this starting the day after surgery and will continue to wear this type of bra for 6 weeks.
- Breast LiftDepending upon the degree of sagging, breast lift surgery may include the removal of excess skin from around the areola and from the bottom of the breast to tighten the skin. In doing so, the position of the nipple can be elevated for a more youthful appearance while the volume of the breasts are reduced to produce a smoother look to the skin.
- RhinoplastySometimes rhinoplasty may be a necessary procedure to eliminate breathing problems caused by injury or birth defect. Other patients just want to enhance the shape and size of their nose. Whatever the reason, the rhinoplasty procedure can drastically alter both your facial appearance and the functionality of your nose.
- Breast ReconstructionAnother option of breast reconstruction is the Latissimus Dorsi flap with or without an implant. The Latissimus muscle is located on your back. This is another flap which is autologous or your own tissue. This flap is often combined wit an implant to achieve the projection of a breast mound. We often use this flap in patients who have undergone mastectomies with radiation. The latissimus flap is beneficial because it adds new non-radiated tissue which stretches better than radiated tissue and provides a healthy new blood supply to assist in reconstruction. Not all patients who undergo radiation need new autologous tissue like a TRAM or latissimus flap. It all depends on the individual. The latissimus flap takes about 3-4 hours to perform and a 2-3 day hospital stay. Most women are off work for 2-3 weeks.
- Plastic SurgerySelphyl, which is platlet-rich plasma that has been used for many years in medicine, is now being used as an injectable filler for cosmetic use. This all-natural substance is being used by Dr. David Mobley here at Parkway Plastic Surgery to improve facial wrinkles.
- Face LiftA chemical peel may be performed in conjunction with a face-lift, but it is not a substitute since it does not achieve the same effects. Chemical peels do not retard the effects of aging.
- Neck LiftAs we age, our face changes. The fat which once sat high on our cheekbones descends downward and our skin develops wrinkles and loses its smooth appearance. Sometimes nonsurgical treatments including Botox, fillers, skin care and lasers can help address these problems, but at times a facelift is the best solution. A face lift is truly a face and neck lift. It brings the fat and underlying tissues (SMAS) to a higher position on the face and it also smooths and tightens the skin. The most common areas of the face which are addressed include the cheeks, deep folds between the nose and corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds), the jawline and the neck. Sometimes we will add other procedures to the facelift including fat injections, peels and eyelid or brow procedures to address other concerns. Each individual is different. At Parkway Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, we will guide you in determining the best procedure for you.

- Breast SurgeryBreasts are one of the most distinguishing features of a woman's body. Unfortunately for some, a disproportionate bust line can cause their waist to appear larger and leave them looking heavier than they really are. Breast augmentation is the surgical procedure that can add volume by using breast implants to create a more attractive, natural appearance. In addition, breast surgery can be used to accomplish many reconstructive measures such as balancing oddly sized or shaped breasts.
- Lip AugmentationJuvederm and Restylane have a similar composition of hyaluronic acid gels that produce very similar results. Generally speaking, Juvederm produces slightly smoother and more pliable results making it a natural choice for correcting bags under a patient's eyes or most lip augmentation procedures. However, the difference in results are marginal and the decision as to which filler is used will depend largely on your medical provider's preference in meeting your personal goals. To properly treat sun-damaged skin or age-related problems, your medical provider will evaluate each problem individually and recommend the most suitable dermal filler.
- Body ContouringEven in women with extensive sagging, mastopexy can be used to produce the desired body shape. To learn more about Parkway Plastic Surgery and all of our body contouring procedures, contact us for a mastopexy consultation in Jacksonville to discuss your options.
- Laser ResurfacingThe AHA peel smoothes rough, dry skin and improves the texture of sun-damaged skin. It may also help to improve mild acne. The AHA solution can be mixed with a bleaching agent to correct or improve pigmentation problems. Sometimes the AHA peel is used as a pretreatment to prepare the face for a TCA peel or for laser resurfacing.
- Cosmetic SurgeryWhen your face loses its youthful appearance and becomes etched with fine lines, creases and folds, it can leave you looking older than you are. Since Restylane is a natural component of the skin, it has distinct advantages over most traditional fillers in keeping facial skin plump and supple. Treatments are quick, easy and produce immediate results that are noticeable but don't leave you looking like you just had a cosmetic surgery.
- DermabrasionAre you looking for a non-surgical way to freshen and rejuvenate the skin on your face? Microdermabrasion treatments, a less aggressive approach than dermabrasion, make use of a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand the skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration and sun damage and there's even microdermabrasion for stretch marks. Imagine a very fine sand blaster and you'll get a picture of how microdermabrasion works. It uses microparticles, or a diamond-tipped wand, to slough off the top layer (epidermis) of your skin and stimulate new skin growth. This technique also helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that's abundant when you're a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin. There is almost no discomfort in microdermabrasion, meaning you won't need a topical or local anesthetic and there is no recovery or downtime. Contact Parkway Plastic Surgery for more information about our Microdermabrasion Procedures in Jacksonville, Florida.
- Forehead LiftOur surgeons can smooth the forehead skin by raising your eyebrows and minimizing your frown lines. - Chemical PeelsSun exposure, acne or just getting older can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. If you want your skin to look smoother and younger, consider a chemical peel, which uses a chemical solution to smooth the texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers. A chemical peel, also called chemexfoliation or derma peeling, is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. Although chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your neck and hands. You can improve...
