- The mission of the Independence Police Department is to protect life, individual liberty and the property of all people within the city of Independence, Mo. It strives to develop and maintain a positive relationship with members of the community and foster a positive work environment for police employees. Established more than 120 years ago, the department sponsors a variety of programs in the community, which include Project DARE, School Resource Officer Program, Citizen s Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol, Child Identification Program and Explorer Scout Post. Consisting of nearly 300 individuals, The Independence Police Department includes eight divisions, administrative, community services, criminal investigations, fiscal management, patrol, professional standards, support services and traffic safety and education.
