The College was founded in 1960 by Don and Leila Cohoon and is now directed by their daughter, Linda Clifford, who started her career in 1972. The College enjoys a national, as well as international, reputation for quality education and plays an active part in the local business community. Courses are offered in Esthetics, Cosmetology and Instructor Training. Interested students, friends and/or family members are invited to tour the College Tuesday Saturday, 8: 30 -3: 00, by making an appointment with the Admissions Director, at 816-252-HAIR ( 4247 ). The cosmetology industry offers a variety of positions with a wide income range. Those positions include: make-up artist, salon manager, hair designer, educator, business owner, sales executive, esthetician, spa owner, cruise line stylist and platform artist, to name a few. Individuals in this field have the opportunity of flexible hours, of setting their own schedule and of working part time. Jobs are always available and even the US Government has said that the cosmetology industry is one of the most promising for job security. The public always has a need for personal services. Independence College of Cosmetology utilizes the Pivot Point education system, the most widely accepted cosmetology training system in the world. All of the coursebooks are available online with an individualized access code. Pivot Point has been translated into thirteen languages and is used in 70 countries worldwide. Pivot Point uses a methodology that allows learning at the emotional, visual, analytical and manual level.
