Best atmosphere and stellar service with second to none fare!
The worst dining experience of my life was at A Taste of Texas. I am just married and also look very young so when I walked in and said I had a reservation they laughed at me. Finally after 30 minutes we were seated (30 minutes after our reservation time). We witnessed almost 10 people with reservations like us get seated before us. Finally after we were seated the waiter stopped over and we mentioned we would like to see a manager to complain about our slow seating. Well this guy named Bubba walked to our table and said he was the manager. We started telling him the story and he would not stop interrupting us. When we finally finished talking to my astonishment Bubba started hitting on my wife! He even told her if she ever needed anything to let him know and then winked. After that we stood up and walked out and want to Pappas where I had the best steak of my life.
I will not return to this restaurant. I took my son Saturday evening, celebrating his 15th birthday. We are used to waiting 1 1/2- 2 hrs. for a table as we did Saturday evening. Once we were seated we placed our orders. I ordered my steak and told the waiter- please extra well and went on to tell him- we have been here before and most times I have to return my steak because there is red when I cut into it, so please ask them to grill it extra well. Of course was his response. Our meal arrives, my son's steak was fine, I cut into my steak and red blood spills out. Really? I asked the waiter to please throw it back on the grill. As I wait..........and wait.......25 minutes later, my son is completely finished eating his meal, here comes my steak. So....we wait almost 2 hours to be seated, so my son can eat his meal ALONE, and then I can eat my steak a half hour later. I asked the waiter to take it away, I have lost my appetite. A manager comes over and offers me his card, so I can look for him next time we come so we don't have this problem again- are you kidding me? I should come here again...place my order...then try to find this idiot and tell him to see to it they cook my steak the way I ordered it. I don't want this jerk's card. And I agree with another review about the guy at the front- dark hair, thinks he is Mr. Buff in his suit- he was as rude as heck to me when I asked what number they were up to. What a POS to have at the front door greeting patrons. Adidos Taste of Texas- you have left a bad taste in my mouth.
LOVE T.o.Tx. My favorite steakhouse in Houston. The meat is always super juicy and cooked to perfection! I cut my Filet with a fork last time! Waiters really know the menu and can help you decide on adders for your steaks. Sides and desserts are excellent as well. They will ask if you are celebrating anything special, if you are, free dessert and a picture.
I've eaten all over Houston and haven't found a better steak at any price. Worth it!!
No notice that they were closed on Labor Day, the only weekday my husband has off during most weeks. Showed up to find a hand written sign on the door saying ""come back later"" denoting the change of hours. Different hours not on website or on phone recording. Went to OLIVE GARDEN and had a great meal!! Sent them an email questioning this procedure and heard nothing back. We have been going to ToT for many years. We have always liked it and felt it to be worth the money. Not so much now. Steak prices are over the top and we probably won't go back for a while. Too bad because I do like the owners... just not worth the hassle. Sometimes places just get too fond of themselves and don't care about consequences. I do see this here.
best food, best service, best place to hang out. love it ! will be back !
I went for my birthday w/hubby and friends and absolutely loved it! It is a bit pricey, but well worth it. We will definitely be returning!!!
My troubles started with TOT when I made my reservation, I was put on Ignored when I tried to make a reservation for 20, most restaurants would jump to get a big party in but not TOT, I had to hang up and call back and ask for a manager who apoligized and assured me that is not how they do business. The day of my dinner party with Clients, we were stuck in a waiting area even though more then 60% of our guests were there, then when 99% of my guest arrived we were still made to wait as they seated a party of 2, reservation was for six we were escorted to our table at 6:20, once we were moved to our table which was in the fire escape hall way, the area was quite but rather warm and when asked to turn down the air I was given attitude and lied to, we ate dinner in a tight area with 20 bodies warming up the place, a manager never came over to greet us, most my guest enjoyed the food, I had the grilled shrimp, was a little over cooked. Next day called to express my experience to the manager, the buck was passed to the night manager, was told I would get a call back, that never happened, guess dropping over 1K for dinner don't get you much these days. I know my next big dinner party will NOT be at Taste of Texas.
So, I just got back from Taste of Texas and I probably go there 3-4 times a year. However, this time, I had the worst experience ever! When you wait for 2.5 hours for a steak, you expect it to be cooked the way you order it and to taste good. Unfortunately, my medium-rare steak came out as medium-well and kinda tough so I told the waiter and at first, they offered to take the ribeye back and bring me prime rib because that would be ready quicker and my family had already got their food and were half-way through their meal. I told him that I did not want a prime rib, I ordered a ribeye and I've waited for 2.5 hours for this ribeye and paid $40 for it so I expect a perfect steak.
A couple minutes later the waiter came back and apologized for the way they cooked the steak and offered to buy me desert...I told him that I wanted him to comp the steak because of the inconvenience and he told me that he would let the manager know. Soon enough, the manager Norm came over. They took my steak an told me they'd bring out another one. About 20 minutes later, my steak came out and it was cooked medium-rare; however, the company I was with had already finished their dinner and I had lost my appetite from arguing with Norm. Norm then came back over when I got my new steak to see whether I was happy with it and offer me cake again. I reiterated that I wasn't here for the cake, that I waited 2.5 hours outside in the Houston heat and humidity for my steak, that they've raised the prices of their steaks and I would have gladly paid for a steak that came out to my liking but it didn't, that I was upset and that his actions had ruined the occasion that I had been there to celebrate, and that I expected him to comp my steak. He said if I didn't want it anymore, he would take it back. He then offered me cake again and we then nearly got into a heated argument in the crowded restaurant with he telling me that he was absolutely NOT going to comp my steak. I finally told him to leave the table and that if he wasn't going to comp it, I didn't want him there any longer.
He left the table and my steak sat in front of me basically untouched until the bill came. When the waiter asked if I wanted the steak boxed, I asked him whether Norm had agreed to comp the steak. When the waiter replied ""no"", I told him that if Norm is going to comp it, then I'll pay for it and take it home but if he wasn't going to, I don't want the steak anymore. The waiter came back and told me that the steak had been removed from the bill, yet Norm still kept the steak and probably threw it away (hopefully they didn't re-serve it).
The way I see it, Norm had 3 options: (1) he could have comped the steak and allowed me to take it with me or eat it so that at least I would have been compensated for my inconvenience, (2) he could have provided me with a gift certificate to induce me to come back to this restaurant and to prove to me that they're better than what happened tonight, or (3) he could have refused to comp the steak and stick to his guns, thus making me pay for the steak and take the steak home with me. Instead, he chose the worst option, option (4) - this option entailed throwing away 2 steaks (the first one that was cooked improperly and the second one that he refused to both comp and let me take home).
By his actions, he not only threw away two steaks, but didn't get paid for either one of them, has lost myself and my family as customers forever including everyone that I tell about this horrible experience (we used to be loyal customers), and has caused me to write this review, along with others. This guy Norm doesn't know customer service from the back of his hand and I would not be surprised if the owners of the restaurant let him go - in fact, I hope that they do for the sake of their restaurant.
I love this place. My friends love this place and my family loves this place. The staff is so friendly and the food is so good. I can't wait to go again.
Amazing atmosphere and food. I was pleasantly surprised at how every person that works there makes sure you are ok, helps you, greets you, etc. The salad bar and bread is a great start to a great meal. Love it here.
I have been a patron of The Taste of Texas for about 15 years. In all of my many visits(from Beaumont.......worth the drive over!!!), I have never been disappointed! You will not find a better steak. The salad bar is always so fresh and the breads are delicious. Expect a wait on weekends but it is well worth it.
Loved this restaurant, the food is delicious. We went there for valentines day last year and it was great. The service is so impressive. I definitely recommend this place. Prices a little high but worth it
Food is awesome.....
We've been there twice. Both times with guests from Europe.
First time we had a really great waiter who was very attentive and helpful and chose great steaks for us.
We got red bandanas when he discovered that we went there for a first time.
The second time we went there waiter was less attentive and he chose worse meat.
The salad bar is incredibly rich:)
They have the best creme brulee in Houston - really superb! All the desserts look wonderful.
My only complaint is that you cannot book a table. You just come and put yourself on a list, get a number and wait for a table. So you can't be very hungry cause the waiting time for the table was usually around 40 minutes...Well, they have a nice waiting area with drinks and popcorn but there's no use in eating popcorn before a meal.
Definitely it's a great place to take people visiting Texas for the first time.
I love this concept! The food was amazing, I really have never had anything like it before.

My family and I went there to celebrate a birthday and the experience was horrible !!! The service was not good at all , unfriendly waiter restaurant was overly crowded and over priced menu for the food that we ordered. The best part of the meal was the free unlimited bread and salad. The whole time we were there most of my family and friends were saying they will never ever go there again and neither will I.
I have had the pleasure of dining at TASTE of TEXAS
for about 35 years. Taste of Texas is where I always take my family and friends to celebrate or when my wife and I want to relaxe and have a great steak.
