Great Food

Stay away from the links!!! Everything else is on the mark. Sauce is DIFFERENT, but good. Side dishes are ""OK"" but nothing to brag about. You can order as much as you like, they weigh you portion and charge you by the pound, no misuse of amount to be served when it's done like this.

Almost as good as the original

Went back a few months ago for the first time in a few years (I no longer live in Texas, unfortunately), and found the brisket and ribs excellent. Idiots who complain about the butcher paper shouldn't be allowed to comment on barbeque- they'ed be applled by the temples in central Texas (Kreutz, Smitty's, the original City Market in Luling among others). Much better than the (usually) mediocre Goode Company, despite their imagination- barbeque is about doing the basics well, producing smoked meat so flavorful that sauce (even when quite good, and Luling's is good) is not necessary.

Good Luling

This restraunt I visit often. The Meat is great. The sides are few. Could use a remodel inside and get rid of the smokers.

Where's The Beef?

While several of my friends enjoyed eating off of a sheet of paper, not a plate, I found the experience less than pleasant. The portions were smaller than other b-b-q houses in Houston, and the service was not as good as I expected. The brisket was dry, but the sausage was fair. The sauce was tangy, but the beans were not cooked very well, and have little to no seasoning the three times I've been.

Always Long For

This is the restaurant I think about most when I think about Houston. The homemade beef sausage links with the special homemade BBQ sauce is out of this world. The BBQ Brisket is tender and has just the right about of mesquite flavor. I live in Hawaii now, but I have my friends and family bring me some when the come for a visit or they cannot come!

The True Texas Original

I've been going to the original Luling City Market in Luling, Texas since I can remember. The place has small town character with a friendly staff that makes you feel at home. Above all, this is by far the best barbecue that anyone could ever have. Barbecue sauce is on the table for you to use. It too is the best but by no means is needed. Unlike other barbecue restaurants that pour it on their meat to make up for the lack of flavor. Sides are optional as well, but hardly sold because the meat is too flavorful to put down. Don't expect some ritzy restaurant with plates and silverware. You get butcher paper and a knife - but that's all you'll need. And yes I've tried other barbecue restaurants across the state - even Goode Company.

Not only is the BBQ at Luling City the best in Texas ,but they have found a way to serve this to the customers in a BBQ way.

How did this even get in the top ten?

I can't even beleive this made it to the top ten. This place is a hole in the wall with pickle BBQ sauce. Anyone who thinks this is great BBQ hasn't had REAL BBQ. Take a drive to Richmond and visit Swinging Door. I promise you will have a different opinion after you taste the juicy ribs and tender beef!

Sauce is King!

The food tastes great, but I love the sauce! A bit on the pricey side, but good barbecue's worth it!

Great barbeque, sketchy sides.

The sliced brisket is lean and has on occasion been a little dry, but it has a wonderful flavor. The orangish sauce looks funky, but is the best tasting in town.

Spent 10 bucks on a sliced beef plate (w/ 2 sides)and a Coke, but I certainly didn't leave hungry.

Minimalist presentation . . . barbeque is served on sheets of paper.

All three side items (beans, slaw or potato salad) are equally bland. Avoid them or season them with plenty of salt & pepper.

Friendly staff. Quick service.

Hill Country in Houston

This is the closest thing to the real Texas Hill Country BBQ around. Top it off with a Shiner Bock and its Heaven in Houston.

TEXAS HEAVEN!!!

This outstanding little BBQ joint has the best food in town. Everything is made fresh daily in house including the sausage links and the sauce. The atmosphere is one of a dying breed! The oak pit aroma is the first thing you you'll notice upon entering. Belly up to the bar with a ice cold longneck and a big plate of oak pit smoked BBQ and you'll think you've died and gone to Texas Heaven!! Great food and a great bar. Easy to get to from anywhere in the Galleria area.

Good ribs

Overall, 2nd best BBQ we've had in the Houston area (Swinging Door is #1).
Vegetables are good also.
BBQ sauce is unusual in appearance, but tasty.
Small, full service bar has a ""neighborhood bar"" atmosphere.

DETAILS

A Central Texas Barbeque Restaurant & Mixed Drink Saloon

General Info
Luling City Market was founded in 1981 in Houston Texas in an attempt to bring the distinct Central Texas barbeque style to the city. We cook our meat over Post Oak wood in specially designed pits. No gas is used for cooking our meat. All of the smoke flavor and the distinctive smoke ring are genuine. In addition, we make our own 100% beef sausage using the same recipe we have used for over 20 years. We grill fresh meat 7 days a week from brisket, chicken, turkey and pork ribs to our own home made sausage links. It's not ALL about Bar-B-Que. Our experienced long-time employees make delicious cole slaw, potato salad and pinto beans along with individual pecan pies and Texas size brownies. We have the perfect side dishes to compliment the best Bar-B-Que you'll ever experience. You may have heard of our distinctive Luling City Market Bar-Q-Que sauce. This tangy mustard based sauce has been one of our most popular items and we ship it all over the world. Our special sauce is so good you can use it on everything from meat, eggs and seafood to just plain old crackers. We make it here from a special recipe - you can't get it anywhere else, but you CAN get it from us. Click the 'Sauce' link above for more details.
