Not only is it the best hamburger, they have wonderful chicken fried steak specials on Fridays.
Get there early, or you won't get a table for lunch.
This place has earned the best burger award in my book, the thing was HUGE!
What a great place to have breakfast too, just hanging out talking with other diners about current event...
The staff is very friendly, and the service is awesome!
I tried Wednesday Special Enchiladas instead of my normal burger I just cannot seem to stay away from. Was I glad I did! They were awesome. A half-order (at $5) comes with chips and green & red salsa..both great! Tray after tray of enchiladas kept coming out of the kitchen. I shall look forward to trying more ""specials"" during the week now! The highlight of my meal with visiting with Jimmy while I ate at the counter. Love this place! Can't wait to go back for more!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The burgers are great. I haven't yet experienced their breakfast or anything else. Their onion rings and fries are to die for too. Come early and be prepared to find an obsure parking spot. It's worth it though!!
I started eating there after finding it in Citysearch about 4 years ago. After that, I was there 4 days a weeks. Edies salsa-on Wed. & Sat. is the best ANYWHERE. I have not found anything that they serve that is not done to beyond perfection. On Sat. (once in a while) Edie will make Eggs Benedict that will make Brennans take a backseat. The Cheesburger is beyond belief. The Tacos are absolutely beyond compare. The enchiladas should be in the Food Hall of Fame. The Chicken Fried Steak is real steak. The crew is friendly. The food is the best in Houston. She even makes all her own salad dressings. The house dressing is above superb. They only have 1 Special a day and that is worth coming in for by itself. Try her breakfasts, no rubbery eggs here. Edie has the breakfast down pat.
The uneven floor, unstable tables, and ancient proprieter would make me love this place even if the food wasn't too good to describe. If you want an otherwordly experience for almost nothing, have Saturday morning breakfast.
Burgers are awesome; very large, very tasty.
What is unreal are the specials. I have yet to have one that is not fantastic. Chicken friend steak day in really good. Taco day is insane.
Only thing is that the place is very, very, old and small. But once your food arrives you forget about how long you had to wait to eat.
I love Chicken Fried Steaks and Lankfords has the best but only on Thursdays, They also have a great Breakfast 6 days a week. As always the folks that wait on you are in good humor. I love taking a crowd there even if we have to take a seat outside on the picnic tables. But be sure to get there before the lunch crowd.
I ran across this place by accident. Boy, am I glad that I did. That Old Fashioned cheeseburger was sooooo good. I knew it was too big and I really shouldn't have eaten it all in one sitting, but after the first bite, I couldn't stop. Now, I can't wait until next Thursday to try that chicken fried steak. It just looked good. And the staff was really nice.
The best burger in town and I am not sure there is a close 2nd. The Wednesday enchiladas are great as well. If you go for lunch get there early because it gets packed. Great place
Lankfords definately has the best burgers in houston. Fuddruckers and all of those others on the list don't come close. Their chicken fried steak actually has steak in it, not that paper thin layer of beef that other places call steak. Whether you like burgers or salads or chicken fried steak, one thing is for sure, you will come out full but already craving your next visit.
If more citysearch users had been to Lankford, I can guarantee that It would win best Burger every year. They are thick, juicy, homemade, and tasty. You can have a shiner, sit on the hardwood floors (some of which are slanted), and stuff yourself. Supposedly they have great enchiladas and chicken fried steak too, but I can't tear myself away from the Burger!
I've been going to the Lankford for about five years now. Lankford is just like coming home. They have great specials, great menu items and a staff that welcomes you like family.
If you want to truly experience Lankford, sit at the counter. Jimmy will take care of you and watch over you like you were one of his own. The conversation is free and the service is pretty spiffy too.
Sure, the burgers are amazing - the best I've ever tasted. But do yourself a favor and come for breakfast. The Biscuits and Gravy (Saturday only) are exceptional (omelettes too!). The enchiladas & homemade soup are a real treat.
Finally, end your meal with some of the homemade peach cobbler with a big scoop of ice cream.
If you miss a simpler time, great food, good value, and down-home people, do yourself a favor and experience Lankford.
I've lived in the 'hood near Lankford's for 20 years, but I never tasted it's fabulous cheeseburgers until I subscribed to City Search. What a fool I was...the best burger in the world just a few blocks from my house. I have one word of advice for you--if you try to keep your weight down--plan out your trip to Lankford's. You'll want to enjoy the huge burger and fries without guilt! Nothing to spoil the sheer pleasure of their food.
The food was mouth watering, not only my burger and the rest of the orders at our table, but everything that the excellent wait staff carried by was greeted with a ""wow that looks or smells great"" or ""that's what I'm having next time"". This is not for the froofy, no adventerous eaters, they might trip on the uneven floor, but if our want a great meal Lankford's is great!!!
My receptionist introduced me to Lankfords last year and I go back as often as possible for lunch. I absolutely crave the burgers. And the daily specials are truly special. The mac and cheese is the best. It's not the best location....but really, how convenient is it to try to drive down in the galleria area. I'll take the hood any day. The service is wonderful, the servers are charming. And Jimmie is just a darling. Wish they were open more hours---I'd drive back into town from Galveston to bring the kids.
Best burgers in Houston! Small place, that fills up quick, but everyone is in good spirits, even the other patrons. I guess they're happy and excited about the food.
Too bad they aren't open late.
Friendly folks, great food (especially the burgers!), and good cold beer. What better place to spend an aftrenoon?
I don't eat too many burgers, but this place makes the best in town. They've got just the right amounts of condiments, grease, and griddle flavor. I especially like them after sleeping in on Sundays. Try their daily specials too--I've never been disappointed.
The Burgers are great but if you havn't tried the
Chicken Fried steak on Thursdays you don;t know what you're missing. What a great little Houston
Secret.
