- Dog TrainingI have loved animals since I could walk. My family called me Dr. Doolittle. I loved them all - but dogs were different, It's almost like I could hear their thoughts - I could put myself behind their eyes and know how they felt. When I was 12 years old my mom said I could finally have a dog of my very own. We went to the pet shop and this little gray and while poodle mix eyed me and would not be still. She made sure I kept looking at her. Gigi was my best friend until she died when I was 21. She and I went everywhere together. I played dog show with her - brushing her for hours and parading her around. I even set up agility courses in the back yard with chairs and boards. (Agility wouldn't even be though of for years!) That dog would do anything for me and I would do anything for her. When she died, it broke my heart. I was a newlywed and my new husband, Jeff, couldn't stand the sadness so off we went to find me another friend. Her name was Kathleen and she was a 1 year old Sheltie. Kathleen introduced me to the real world or purebred dogs and dog shows. Initially I took her to obedience class because she was shy and needed socialization. I quickly became hooked and the rest is history. Since Kathleen, I have had another Sheltie (Gypsy), a Doberman Pinscher (Promise), 5 Belgian Tervurens (Torch, Wit, Sofi, True, and Stevie), and 2 Border Collies (Key and Bones). Both my Shelties had obedience titles. Three of my Tervs have their breed championships, advanced obedience titles, and herding titles - my new addiction. The Border Collies are a result of my new passion - competition sheepherding. I have worked in the animal field since the early 1980's - helping people with their dogs. I started out in a boarding kennel and landed at Bear Creek Animal Clinic in 1988. In between dogs, dog training, and working at the clinic, I raised 2 children and now have 3 grandchildren. I'm proud to say they are all animal lovers! My oldest grandson, Orson, has the "Dr. Doolittle" gene. I recently obtained a puppy Border Collie, Cera, for him. We are embarking on their journey into dog training together and it's thrilling to me. For the last few years I have been teaching competition obedience also - finally taking the leap and doing it full time in 2013. I teach 2 classes and have multiple students I teach on an individual bases. I also continue to help the Bear Creek Animal Clinic family with their dogs. I love helping people learn how to communicate with their dogs so they can maximize the relationship. I want everyone to experience the joy I receive from my own dogs.
