What a great way to start a Sunday !
Baba Yega puts on an awesome Sunday brunch, from the made to order Omelettes to the Roasted chicken , and plentiful sides, and if you have any room left, the incredible dessert selections,
This is one of my favorite Sunday morning destinations...
Baba Yega knows brunch; they hang out and are great friends! Omelettes made to your selection in front of you start the brunch experience and BY's. Salmon at breakfast, absolutely. The pancakes and waffles are always great. Salad and fruit selection are enough to make even the choosiet of vegetarians sing for joy. The lunch and dinner here are not bad, but the brunch is definitely amazing! Houston is well aware of the Sunday brunch so expect to wait if you come during the rush. Perfectly located inside the Montrose.
The staff is friendly and the food is prompt. The food is so fresh and there is a free fruit basket that awaits your exit, I like how the owner picks fresh cucumbers from his garden and places them in the basket for your enjoyment. Very great experience, will return again and again!!!
This place has a little something for everyone, is reasonably priced, and fresh!! I have eat here regularly and have never been disappointed (and neither have my friends). The atmosphere is lovely, and the courtyard is romantic. The upstairs room is perfect for private parties. It's one of my favorites in the city!
refreshing change from the everyday
Used to eat here alot when my ex gf lived in the Heights even now any excuse I am back. The best sandwiches-try the Fantasy, also the smoked salmon is great. Best potato salad. Outdoor deck to people watch or hang out, tiny bar area with friendly staff, wine and drinks priced resonably. Low stress whether for a quck meal or drink some wine and nibble with a friend. Located in the heart of Montrose so narrow minded dumbasses may not be able to relax.
I have eaten here a few times with my sister b/c she is a vegetarian. Now, she just loves the food, but hey, she has to take what she can get. I, however, did not find it as good as other places. If you like things that are different, then I recommend it. They just use very unusual herbs and spices for their food -- things that I would never use. That is the only reason I don't really like the place. But, like I said, if you like things that are a little different from the ordinary, then, hey, try it out. Plus, it does have a very quaint, nice atmosphere. There is a nice, small bar, outdoor and indoor eating, along with a nice view of the garden.
I love this place! excellent food! I have never had anything bad there!! I love the atmosphere, if you get a chance (or have to go to the rest room) check out the lovely pond in the back! The service is so so but the food is excellent!!
First time there today at lunch from The Woodlands during a terrific storm and downpour. Everyone - bar staff, waitstaff - 1st class service. Food was great!
I visited today for the first time after receiving a gift card. I agree with others that the food was alright but not great. My spinach salad was a little odd. It had avocados in it as well as peppers & tomatoes. The dressing tasted commercial. However, it was a nice sized salad. I've had better tasting artichoke spinach did but the chips were nice and crisp. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. However, their gift card system was new and they could not get it to work correctly. I'm not sure if we would go out of our way to eat there again. My husband enjoyed his ""reuben"" sandwich. If we do return again, I will try a sandwich. There were a few kids there and if you arrive early for dinner, I think young veggies would have fun there especially if you sit outdoors.
I went to Baba Yega for the second time on my birthday this year and it was as good as I remembered. Although the chips that came with the spinach and artichoke dip were a little disappointing, my vegetarian club sandwich was huge and delicious. The potato salad was good too. The hibiscus tea, though not the best I've ever had, was still decent. My sister had the lime chiffon pie, which tasted just like the ""icebox pie"" my mom used to make. I had the flan, which was rich and yummy, and they didn't charge me for it because it was my birthday. There was a nice garden to stroll through and the music was mostly good oldies. There were plenty of vegetarian options. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston.
I have been to Baba Yega's many times over the past eight years and always come away with the same impresion. The atmosphere and ambiance is great, especially at night. The food is slightly above average, kudos to them to offering more vegeterian options than most. The service is always slow, sometimes polite, sometimes not. The entire dining area, in and out, and the restrooms are always clean. Pretty good place for a date, sit on the back patio.
We have made the Baba Yega Sunday brunch part of our regular routine. The food is amazing, and we love the ambience. Although we have not ordered off the regular menu, it looks really great. Service is always wonderful, and the wait is never too long even on crowded days. It's one thing I will really miss about Houston when I no longer live here.
first, i love baba yega's food. there is something for everyone on the menu, including the killer low fat chocolate torte. my only complaint is the lack of enthusiasm from the service. as a waitor myself, i can't see how these people can be perfectly decent servers without having any signs of life or personality. i kept getting my food and drink on time, but it seemed to be delivered by a robot. if they could attend a pep rally first, this place would be top-notch.
Baba Yega is one of the prettiest restaruants in Houston, especially the back covered patio area. I have read some complaints about the food, but if you stay with the sandwiches and salads you can't go wrong -as good as any in town. This is basically a sandwich shop, don't expect fine dining and you will be pleased.
I've only been here once for brunch, but it was fantastic! Really good serive and the food was delicious. For about $15 a person, you can have all the salads, fruit, pastas, eggs, walffles, grilled chicken, and salmon you want. A great variety and nice atomosphere brings this vibrant little house to a delight!
I went there for lunch wtih 6 people. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I knew that I had to get the salmon pasta special of the day with fruit. I was not disappointed. The meal was excellent and they have the freshest fruit I've ever had. The service could be a little better. My portion was only $10 and I will definitely be back.
The folks at Baba Yega's are always ready to make you feel at home. The staff is friendly, the food is savory. Anyone can find something to eat, whether you like burgers, are vegetarian, want low-carb or enjoy salads. My favorite is the Shrimp and Avocado Salad with the Sundried Tomato Vinagrette dressing. Delicious! My partner and I visit at least once every week. It's great to have a mixed crowd and see people enjoying themselves!
The back deck is a very pleasant place for a group of people to get together and be able to hear a conversation. Get one of the round tables on the back deck for 6-8 people. The food is also good, not expensive, and the menu offers something for everybody. Also, they don't rush you out of there.
I love Baba Yega, but I can see why people would complain about the service - sometimes you'll get a sweet waitress who really does need that tip and other times a rude old queen who couldn't care less.
The food is good and the portions are large, I tend to order the lox plate - fairly decent quality salmon, good bread and lots of veggies. The sandwiches are great too. Although I do think they're a little overpriced sometimes.
The atmosphere is really nice, around back with the water features and the herb shop, it's a bit like stepping into another little world, or on the front patio to people-watch. I find the inside a little dark, but I guess it would be nice for dinner.
I'd say pay it a visit - you won't have a bad time and you might just fall in love.
