We spoke to the owner about this issue today, and he was very willing to come to an amicable resolution to our complaint. Much appreciated.**
We had to rent a piece of equipment from Ulmer's to investigate a fire/explosion. We were quoted $170 over the phone for the use of a bobcat for one day. When the bobcat was delivered, they presented a 3-day contract. The driver was told it was only needed for one day. He wrote on the contract "change to 24 hours". Printed on the contract was the price of $270 for 24 hours. The store was closed the next day, so no pickup was available. We returned home the next day to find our account had been charged $587, and we had overdrafts. We called on Monday, since Ulmer's wasn't open on Sunday. We spoke to Mike Peltier, who was the person who had made the rental arrangements over the phone. When told of the problem, he was defiant and uncooperative. He was only willing to refund a $200 security deposit, which we were never informed about (we have never been charged a security deposit on equipment rental before in the state of Alaska, and have rented many times). He absolutely refused to even discuss any other ways to resolve the problem. We ended up having to charge the client who hired us to investigate the fire the extra money, and eat the overdraft charges ourselves. Mike Peltier's attitude seems to be all about sticking it to the customer, rather than working with them to find a mutually satisfying business transaction. We would NEVER do business with Ulmer's again in the future, as we find Mike Peltier to be a dishonorable and hostile individual. Buyer beware.
